So I'm one of those guys who have watched lots of SMB gameplay and walkthroughs, but I'm not yet sure if I'll buy the game. Sure, it looks like an awesome games, but what's really the point if it doesn't have online? So if it has online features, I'll definitely be buying the game. Thanks for the answer.

Online leaderboards and the upcoming custom-level portal are all the online you'll need.
Back in the day, we didn't have online games. It was just us against the stages. And dammit, we liked it.

Jesus Christ, do you intentionally make blind assumptions and jump down everyone's throat or does it just come naturally?

i'd kiss you on the mouth, if i could. love your response OP seems to me like a giant Call of Duty loving faggot.
Who the hell are you talking about anyway. now i will HAVE to kiss you on the mouth!! TSP: please, keep it a little more civil... agreed, i thought along the same lines, but...there's really no need to say something like that, is there? op: psychopath is right. i mean...there IS online, only...you don't really play against anyone else but the clock, the levels and your friend's scores. plus, this community right here, that's forming around these forums...kinda serves as a viable "online" part to the game, for me ;)

The Silent Protagonist is the only douchebag here so far.
I really don't think that you or the rest of the boards has the justification in order to go ahead and make that judgment. In fact, having a different opinion than the rest of the board and imposing it to make it bold, yet harsh does not make me a douchebag, but just hostile towards those who tend to go against things of which I stand for (Gaming as an artistic platform) or people who just do not listen no matter how far I drive the idea nail into their skulls (dual booting solutions, IRC promotion for a stronger community, etc.) Please reconsider your judgment of me. Have a nice day. OP seems to me like a giant Call of Duty loving faggot.

I don't think anyone with the screenname "EmmaWatsonsBF" has the right to judge anyone. Unless they're from the Harry Potter fanfiction writing community.

Great comeback, bro.
You're a real piece of work. You're an asshole to everybody, and then you wonder why no one wants to join your IRC. Your IRC where you "bring people together to a new level!"

Aww, someone's getting all butthurt. Surely the Harry Potter fanfiction will help you cope. How many Mary Sues have you written about thus far? 1? 2? 5? Please, enlighten the forums in a nice little storytelling adventure! Surely...you've written something better than My Immortal by now ;D

Alrighty then... Getting back on topic, I'd personally like to say that online play seems plausible given that you race with computer-controlled players in a couple parts of the game (Salt Factory, Brownie race for example). I'm not sure what the inner workings of the game are like but I don't see why some changes couldn't be made to replace that AI with another player, set up some servers to host games on, and make it so that the first to the finish line is the winner. Perhaps other game modes could be imagined as well. Then again, I think it was mentioned on the Team Meat/SuperMeatBoy twitter that no online features apart from the level portal would be added to the game so chances are that we won't see any other online modes set up in the future. You can't blame them, Team Meat is made up of only 2 guys and the work they've already done is incredible. You don't really need to play online to enjoy this game anyway; the fun comes from barreling through levels on your own, trying to get high scores and just messing around. Online play is more suited for games where interacting with others is a key aspect of the game, like shooters and RTS games. Anyway, I know that there's a demo version on XBL and there might be a demo on Steam as well, so try the game out and buy it if you like it

This made me think of something off topic'ish. You guys have surely come across that growing breed of gamer that only plays Halo, COD, and Guitar Hero and is completely oblivious to all other games(I assume). Well the most fun i have had gaming in a long time is getting this completely fail breed of gamer to try Super Meat Boy in my presence. It is the most hilarious thing i have seen in a long long time. To see someone not even able to pass the Forest World and rage quit before encountering any real challenge is pwntastic. I honestly watched a guy completely confused on Level 1-2. I laughed so hard brew came out my nostrils. I suggest you guys try it if you haven't. Wholesome fun for the whole family. On topic. To the topic creator. I highly doubt there will be the online multiplayer scenario you are most likely hoping for. However, I honestly think a 2 player race to the finish with 2 folks controlling a Meat Boy of their own (on seperate copies of the same map of course) would be interesting. Sort of like a head to head Tetris or Dr. Mario scenario except with dueling Meat Boys. Maybe a modding community of sorts will grow around this game and something like this become feasible. I doubt it but who knows

That's what I like about SMB. The level of challenge filters out a lot of the annoying "new age" gamers that would otherwise ruin this community. TSP is the only one so far that seems to have slipped through the cracks. It's really depressing that modern online gaming has become about getting the most unlocks or the biggest killstreak bonus. It used to just be about the frags. Fortunately, games like SMB and Minecraft reassure me that there are still real gamers out there. As far as an online component goes, I could take it or leave it. It would probably be pretty neat, but it would be a completely superfluous addition to an already perfect game.

One last point about TSP before I let the topic resume, simply use the "report to moderator" button in the bottom-right-hand corner of each post to report his stupidity to a mod who will hopefully take some action.
Back on topic, the level editor will definitely foster a greater sense of community, but I don't know if that's what you want in game. These types of games have always been about "level designer vs. player," so it'll indirectly be a duel between players, but I don't know if that'll be satisfying for you.
