Well, I don't know if this has been said before but I have a few ideas for multiplayer.

So multiplayer could be competitive or coop, for example competetive:

RACE - basically similar to the brownie level, there would be 2 or more characters (meatboys, different color so everyone knows who they are), and then you would have to race to the end of the level.

DIRECTOR MODE - this isn't really a good idea, but it would be a mode where someone could set traps (like rocket launching robots, spikes etc) on some areas and try to stop someone from finishing a level... this would require some more thinking tho.

And then, COOP, where you would have to cooperate with someone to reach a goal, for example one could pick up a key to open a path for the other one, and he would pick up a key to open the way for him and so on...

So what do you think? I would just love to see multiplayer, especially race mode :D

RACE: In a game where you are supposed to die a lot, this won't work out so well. Consider that it'd severely limit the amount of mechanics that would be usable for designing race levels, it's not a great idea.

DIRECTOR MODE: You are right to say that it's not a good idea.

CO-OP: As I said before, level design would become very limited. There would require specially designed stages for them, much like Portal 2. But unlike Portal 2, there way that stages play is much different and would not work out seamlessly for players.

Multiplayer is likely to never see the light of day for SMB, as a single-player game, it shines on its own.

Team Meat already tried multiplayer and they said it wasn't fun, so instead they opted to go for Super Meat World/level editor (a much better choice if you ask me).

i thought the idea of multiplayer could be implemented into  effectively 

the race idea was something my gf suggested.

although it differs on your post.

have in the middle somewhere and have two identical routes on from the left and one from the right and first one to make it to  wins.

working on your race idea you could have a race following each other on the course, you could see there ghosts. and try an complete it the fastest. they would generally need to be fast paced levels and maybe include checkpoints so when you die you dont go right back to the start.

i liked the co-op but it would be hard to implement maybe and frustrating.

i also like a multiplayer mode based on deaths. so you just need to either go through a huge map, with fewist deaths. or have like last one standing going through rocket rooms etc. or have a map where there are those flying creatures that chase you if they can see you.

how about a survival/point mode? hear me out...
maybe you get ten lives or something or just one it doesn't matter as long as theres a limit.
okay so 2 or (maybe even, dare i say) 4 players are put in a stage with many hazards. when all of  the players are in the designated area (the designated area would also be the spawn) a  will appear, the player who gets the bandage first wins a piont! the player with the most pionts wins. the game ends after a set number of points are reached or until everyone is dead ...

i would enjoy playing this  how about you guys?

It's like Killing Floor except there's less zeds, more deathtraps, and you only have 1 HP and no armor.
