46  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Long Wall Hop on: February 22, 2011, 07:19:29 PM
Some walls are very very easy to slide on.
See my run of 4-3 (beginning) for instance.
I think walls that are not vertical or horizontal (like, "/" or "\", is it what you meant by corners ?) are easy to slide on most of the time - you don't even need to time it : just jump on it, slide, jump again. Meat Boy will slide while keeping stuck.
47  Super Meat Boy / Meat Helping / Re: What is the highest legit placement on the Steam leaderboard? on: February 22, 2011, 02:52:55 PM
I think it is very hard to tell.
There may be cheaters who cheated a lot, others who cheated only a bit on some levels. No way to know.
Besides, I bet some PC Naija users get a fair share of glitched times (be it on purpose or not. It can happen by accident, too).

Conclusion : forget PC leaderboards. Either compare your times to XBLA leaderboards, forums times. Or come on IRC (#meatboy @ Rizon) and compare your times with us.

I guess you know what you are saying, but I'd like to add that the in-game scaling system is not very good, unfortunately - when playing as low as 640x480, as I do myself, it butchers picture and creates resizing artefacts when scrolling is involved.
Btw, does this game even have a native resolution ? 720p maybe ?

edit : @animatorzed => doesn't playing windowed instead of v-synced fullscreen changes the game behavior on a few levels ?
I've noticed that on my rig, blades shoot at a different frequence between FS/windowed, for instance.
49  Super Meat Boy / Meat Helping / Re: What's the Best Screen Recorder for Super Meat Boy? on: February 20, 2011, 11:33:32 AM
I don't think you'll much find better programs than these two. They are supposed to be good at their job. FRAPS is focused on quality and uses its own near-lossless codec, while other programs may allow you for more flexibility / loss of quality (I've tried Camstudio but that was long ago).

What resolution/framerate are you trying to record to ?
Framerate stability while recording depends mostly on CPU power (for encoding) and hard drive write speeds (for actual writing to disk).

Whatever you do, I would advise you to prefer recording at high FPS rather than at high resolution (if you can do both, it's even better). For a game such as SMB, 640x480@60FPS is much better than 1280x960@15FPS.

If FRAPS if too slow, you might want to set it to record half-size videos, or play in a low resolutions. Recording in 640*480 full-size on a Athlon II X4 640 allows the game to run at constant 60FPS - with some minor SMB twitching, but I also get that from time to time even when FRAPS is not running.
The best would probably be to set SMB and FRAPS running on different CPUs but I couldn't find a simple way to do that.

Pretty nice runs you did there, AlwaysSleepyGuy !

FRAPS videos can be uploaded to Youtube but they are huge in size.
So, if you want to avoid upload 100MB files to Youtube, I'd recommend recompressing using another codec, preferably x264.
If you want an easy-to-use encoding solution, I recommend you to use Anri-chan.

Nice little app you did there.

I sent you a PM.

Do you think it would be possible to retrieve the character used for times ?
I can't seem to find that information in savegame.dat. I think it is not here at all, only on distant servers. Even so, there might be a way to read that info, who knows ?

Hi,
I'm trying to speedrun levels, so I'm interested in videos for the sharing aspect (tactics/path/explanations), but also because I don't like using the official PC leaderboards - videos are harder to cheat.
Since I am sort of obsessed in gameplay (specifically speedrun) videos, I would like to use this topic to gather links to such videos. Maybe some of you have links to share, or would be interested in those below.

I'll begin with my own channel, which you can find here.. I make speedruns on individual levels, on levels I like the most (that's why I'm not speedrunning entire worlds). Mainly using Meat Boy but I try other characters from time to time.

Here are the others I know of (some of the uploaders are member of this forum, some others, members at SDA) :
JLennox's channel. Have some speedruns.
Schomey's channel (a topic here is dedicated to his videos)
AnimatorZed's channel. Speedruns.
DurrpyProductions' channel. Mostly bandages guides and walkthrough, I think.
Emmawatsonboyfriend's channel. Mainly speedruns, some explicative videos too.
huffadopolis' channel. Not very active but some videos can be worth watching.
HunimyxSA's channel. Some speedrunning tips.
KC599's channel. He does Iron man runs.
Nightblade36's channel. Commented videos, some tips.
ryndam's channel. Have a few speedruns.
SMeatBoy's channel. Glitches zones + 1 speedrun (I hope he uploads more).
TheMrStimich's channel. Speedruns.
WePlatform's channel. Lots of speedruns.
Xbox42's channel. The same : speedruns.
http://www.youtube.com/user/hamsteralliance playthroughs (see below)
http://www.youtube.com/user/extreemru Iron man runs (same, see below)
http://youtube.com/user/rane2k (A+ playthroughs, mostly dark levels - read below)
http://www.youtube.com/user/srakaaaaaa - a few vids (read below)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIJeTo7GdqE - read below. Some nice Naija speedruns.
http://www.youtube.com/user/SystemOfPuppets91 SystemOfMeat's channel (read page 2). Chapter 1 and 2 runs.

That's it !
54  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Reset Leaderboards - Yes or No? on: February 16, 2011, 05:43:47 PM
Resetting it isn't going to stop cheaters.
This.
Resetting is not a solution.
To have reliable leaderboards would need some serious additionnal work and I don't think it'll ever happen : too time consuming.
