also, keys, and waypoints arent working for me.
Whenever I got this problem, a reload of the level I was editing fixed the issue. And if it didn't fix it, a relaunch of the editor definitely did. :)

Still can't make any chapters, both on my desktop machine and my laptop.

EDIT: I can get the level library to appear only if I have a level loaded which uses the Salt Factory/Hospital/Hell tileset. But then again level slots will randomly crash the game when I try putting levels in them. I have never been able to insert Level 2, 3, 19 and 20 and some other slots may or may not work depending on some random logic.

... That's pretty odd. I trust you've sent in a bug report using the Contact form on the website?

And I still can't make chapters.

I currently have this issue, also. It's not a Steam Username thing because if I try and make the Chapter on another computer it's fine - that's how I uploaded mine. But I also verified the game cache and did the standard Steam fixes for when you have a problem, yet the issue still persists :/

In other news, the freeze between levels is gone!  Meat Boy
Indeed. I hope it's still counting my ratings, though... :S

I picked the easiest option and a few of the levels I got were literally a single jump. Very disappointing.

I picked the easiest option and I'm getting stupidly hard and complicated levels... Providing "I'm Too Young To Die" is the easiest.

I think rating is actually working now. a ton of level ratings have changed.

EDIT: Forest level name bug? what was that?

EDIT: Is the quick freezing between levels gone?

No. In Super Meat World, at the top of the screen when you start the level, instead of saying the custom level's name it would give the name of a level from the official The Forest chapter.
6  Super Meat Boy / Level Showcase / Re: The Key Chapter (8/20) on: May 29, 2011, 02:58:16 AM
Well, it gets harder as you go along. That's the gimmick.

Well, yeah. I'd expect it to get harder, but try to be as inventive as possible with the backwards and forwards. Doing the same thing three times in the case of that level just wasn't very fun, in my opinion. :)

I think I've played Watch Your Step 2 before. I didn't realise it was part of a chapter in progress... But I found it kind of annoying. The backtracking required in it just seemed a little "cheap", if you get what I mean? :S

That's makes sense with the fireballs, actually.

Thanks for the input you two. :)

Thanks for the reply Psychedelic Eyeball! :)

I've always found the whole decorating thing quite hard, as you noticed. I tried, but clearly not hard enough. Should I make any more levels for SMW I'll see if I can do any better. A lot of the times I looked at official levels while making mine; I really started to admire how much effort Edmund put into the looks of the levels. They really are beautiful...

I, personally, found Hell Dark much harder than Hell Light, but everyone else found it to be the other way around. Do you think that's to do with the lava ball's new positioning at the start of Dark being easier to avoid?

Looking back at the Rapture levels, seems I did only put one building layer. Oops... I should probably pay more attention to the backgrounds... *sigh*

Anyway, thanks again for your detailed input. :)

At first I was going to comment on the difficulty ... not being difficult enough, until I realized you were going with the difficulty of the different chapters in the game as the levels progress which is a cool idea. All the levels look great aesthetically, really awesome work (I especially liked how the background & background tiles looked on the salt factory level). For some reason I couldn't ever beat the dark hospital with the fan situation at the end, and the hell ones I just hate those demon maws (or whatever they're called) so much, but beyond that I was really impressed.
Thanks for playing :) Nice to know you like the idea!
In terms of Hospital Dark, would you say that was a bit too difficult in terms of starting easy and getting harder throughout the chapter?
I've seen other levels were the looks of the levels are amazing, I thought mine were somewhat bland, so it's nice knowing that you thought they looked nice! Haha!

Thanks for the feedback.  Meat Boy

I like the idea, not the levels.
Any reason why? Any added feedback so I can actually improve? :)

Thanks for clicking on this thread... Yeah, that's a good thread start. It'll do!

I just thought I'd give a bit of a gentle nudge to a Chapter I just uploaded called "SMB In Short". It features 10 levels, spanning from Forest to Rapture. It's structure is

  • Forest
  • A Dark version of that Forest level
  • Hospital
  • Dark version
  • Etc. Etc. Until Rapture Dark.

I'd highly appreciate it if you could give my Chapter a full playthrough and then come back here with feedback; What you liked, what you disliked as well as what you think I should do to improve in the future.

Thanks very much. I hope you enjoy the chapter :)

While it may seem awesome, to you at least, in your head...
Gameplay-wise that is a pretty horrific idea. Sorry...

Bottom Line? Ball-Chopping Difficulty + Long Level = Not something most people enjoy!
                                                                                                                                        ?
But Easy Difficulty + Fair Mechanics + Long Level = Happy Group Of Players! Meat Boy
Completely agree. I've played quite a few of the custom levels so far and while I'm not amazing at SMB I like to think I'm still pretty damn good, with 100 bandages and a few of the easier IronMan runs under my belt. However, with a lot of the custom levels... So many of them were both long and overly "saw-happy". Such a turn off for the whole chapter!

Same goes with the point about a long level with medium difficulty ending with a stupidly hard jump. I don't want to go through 30 seconds of level just to possibly fail that final jump again because there are 5 saws, 2 rockets and 3 saw-launchers (for example).

I can easily see that a lot of these level creators have a lot of potential for creating some truly amazing and fun levels, but the ones uploaded by Team Meat for testing are just frustrating. And yes, I understand SMB should be frustrating at times, but it should be Fun-Frustrating: "This is so hard, but I want to beat it!"; not "This is so hard, Screw it! I'll go to another level".

... If any of you get what I mean? ^_^;

I don't like that music played in every single Super Meat World map too much, I would prefer to hear different music depending on the tileset used in the map.

I asked Edmund about that and he said "chapter music will be added in the next update".

Currently the SMW level portal does not support any controller input, and is a little hard to navigate as there is no displayed mouse cursor (you can use your mouse, just no cursor is shown.)

Also I don't know if this feature has been temporarly disabled but I'm unable to rate levels after I complete them. Is it a controller issue or merely a feature implementation issue?
SMW Level Portal is likely to stay Mouse-Only:

They plan to have the mouse cursor problem fixed in the next update. However, I believe the cursor shows up correctly if you run in windowed mode (At least, it's showing for me in Windowed).

Rating levels is disabled until Enter The Unknown is released.
