The key to winning with the Soul or ? character is based mostly on luck. Took me about 5-6 playthroughs to beat it with him.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get a special ending for winning with that character.

Okay, I beat the game 10 Times. Used the Bible to kill the real last boss an I unlocked a dummy character. What is the real ending? Does anyone know?

I just got the ending where Isaac is Dr. Fetus!

Just got another ending where he finds a bloody nail (recalling the crucifixion) and Isaac turns into a horned demon.

Here's a summary of all the Tarot cards and their abilities in the game in case anyone's been looking:

The World: Displays the entire map (lasts only for that level).
The Hierophant: Two extra translucent hearts.
The fool: Teleports back to where you started (worthless).
The lovers: Two heart refills.
The moon: Teleports to the secret room in the level.
The Hangman: Floating head (can go through rocks and chasms to reach goodies).
The Tower: Spams troll bombs everywhere.
Judgement: Summons a beggar.
Death: ?

Any others?

It's pointless to chart pills as they're all random. And weapon/ability upgrades are pretty obvious for the most part.

SPOILERS FOR ENDING(S)

Is this the official Isaac thread where we can give our impressions? I'm going to assume it is.

Things I don't like: Not being able to fire diagonally. Plus the randomness of weapon upgrades. You're stock weapon is appropriately weak, but mid-way through the game and you still haven't gotten a damage upgrade or a weapon satellite/buddy (ala Gradius or R-type) makes the game much more tedious and frustrating than fun.

But, it seems like the more you play the more lenient the game is when it comes to giving you upgrades. Starting out I'd rarely get weapon upgrades other than Range (and Range is pretty pointless) for the majority of the game. Instead you'd just get health upgrades. Now it seems like it's the opposite.

Yesterday I got the first ending where you beat Mom and I think that was brave to end it like that. Not being sarcastic at all when I type this, I actually liked it.

Just now I beat the real final boss -Mom's Heart- after about a dozen tries and the endings were a bit of a let down. First one I got just unlocked another character with a Fez, and the character isn't really worth using because his damage special doesn't do a lot of extra damage. I did beat the game a 3rd time with him and I got the one where Isaac finds a noose and hangs himself. Odd.

Overall: I did like it. Worth $5 definitely. I get the feeling that an Iphone/Android version is coming.

A bunch of levels like this were added to SMW. No possible way of completion.

I really hate that Starlight Chapter. Fuck those Homing Demons.

-Be able to see "Ghost Bandages". Grey bandages which take the place of formerly attained bandages and give nothing if collected, but still make the pickup sound and display "BANDAGE GET" when the level is completed.

-Be able to select Meat Boy substitutes (Brownie, Potato Boy, and once unlocked with the petaphile code, Tofu Boy) from the character select with up or down when Meat Boy is highlighted (or cycle through them with shift on the in-level select screen). The retro Meat Boys could be added to this division. Putting in a character code would still work as normal (if for no reason other than to hear PUSH THE BUTTONS!).

-Be able to play as other characters during boss fights once they've been cleared once.

-An optional per-level death counter. Would work best if it can be reset, as it would mostly be for overseeing survival runs.

-The ability to go to the next or previous level from inside of one (or after for previous, making the "X Boy" achievements less annoying to get. I cannot emphasize enough how far a little streamlining goes to alleviate frustration).

Pretty much this. I'd love to play as the other characters during Boss Runs, the Cotton Alley, and The End.

First stage probably took the longest considering the many times before that I first tried to beat it. Then a few hours ago I felt like 'okay, I think I know what to do now' and I got about halfway through the first stage but kept on dying. Then I studied that dude who beat the IWBTG levels youtube video and tried it again, after about 20-30 minutes I finally did it. I cursed at the screen in triumph. Then I got to the 2nd level which looked easier to me, and it kinda' is. But it still took an hour due to frustration and just bad luck. I'd get to the middle, try to double jump and die. Half the time that happened. But I finally got it and cursed triumphantly. Then the 3rd level, which also looked easy, but I realize how quickly those buzz saws come at ya, and keep in mind I'm playing with the keyboard (my controller died and waiting for another one) which made those repeated jumps even more difficult.

It felt like Ed and Tom had seen that episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd where he suggested 'Why don't you just start off the game dead? Would that be hard enough?' and took it to heart with level 3.

I never want to play those levels or anything equally difficult ever again. That is 3 hours or more of my life I am not getting back. In fact when the editor comes out I'm going to edit these levels and make them more fun and call them the F U edition. F U means of course Fun Universe.
12  Super Meat Boy / Level Editing / Re: Are devmode levels too hard? on: April 04, 2011, 01:54:14 AM
I liked the featured chapters Butcher Boy, Remnants, and Paradise Lost. Potato Boy was good but too short.

Everything else I really didn't like. It just seemed hard for the sake of being hard without any fun to be had. In some of the hardest levels of Super Meat Boy, there's always a trick like 'oh, I just have to have a running jump from here and, got it! Okay now the next one, damn I fucked up, try again.' Once you figure out the pattern it's fun.

A lot of the Devmode levels just come off like Asshole Mario stages.

*Edit: Some of the Jumper levels like I-9 Gators of NY are pretty good. But the majority of them are just way too hard because the designer thought it necessary to add an extra element to make an already hard jump even harder to make. While also keeping in mind the slow velocity of Ogmo which throws off your rhythm. In the hardest levels in that pack, you could beat if there wasn't an extra saw blade in the way, or the homing rockets didn't fire every second and were slower, and etc. If the designer removed these extra hard elements the levels would be fine, otherwise I want to kick him in the teeth. FYI I feel no remorse for using the exploit on I-13 Street Sweep to beat it. Fuck that.

I was a little disappointed that I've yet to find a level that lets you switch characters. Any reason why guys? I can understand character-specific levels but I like to use the other characters sometimes, it adds a little variety.

Rest in Piece dude. Don't start your Let's Play with Cotton Alley.

Anyone else notice stuttering (like lag spikes) during the last level in the Remnants World?

Love the featured Remnants and Butcher Boy worlds the most. Most of the other levels I don't like as much because they're more hard than fun. I've been taking screen shots like a mad man on my progress. Great stuff!
