Not always. in Super Mario RPG (Super Famicom) it begins like that, but while you try to rescue her, sth attack Bowser castle and kick you, the princess and bowser out. You'll have to team up with Bowser to beat the enemy.

That was in 1996, but this attempt to change the story was quite cool.

Dude, you don't play a game by watching videos of it. And you don't judge a game by its graphics either. Minecraft is popular for a reason, and you should at least try creative mode before you dismiss it. Also, just because the default mode is First-Person doesn't mean it's a first-person-shooter. It's not. You can't build a calculator in a first person shooter. Or a cannon, for that matter. Come to think of it, you can't build much besides basic levels in most first person shooters. Give it a shot.
