1  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: No-death achievements! Let's help each other to get them! on: March 01, 2011, 04:48:29 PM

I spent FIVE hours running meatboy-only Demon Boy last night. After dying annoying deaths for what seemed like forever, I had an awesome run where I got it down to only two levels remaining (4-1x and 4-2x).

I COMPLETELY CHOKED! On 4-1x I should have just dropped down between the first set of saws like I had practiced many, many times, and instead I freaked out and jumped. Right into the moving saw. I HAD IT! That level is a freebie!!

After that I had to put the game down because it was already midnight and I had to be at work by 7. The most frustrating part is that now SMB is all I can think about. I KNOW that I'm capable of completing the run, but I'm stuck at work. I have to wait here in agony until I can get home and finish it!

Welcome to my world.  It is a fun, yet brutal place.

I need to stop procrastinating and get Girl Boy.
I blame Dead Space 2.

(I'm still working on it, just not at nearly the same pace as say... Zombie Boy)

Does anyone have any tips for Maggot Boy, particularly the levels with the zombie Meat Boys? Abomination and its dark world counterpart (Swine) are my two of my least favorite levels in the whole game (maybe with the exception of the Kid level 2 and In Line). I hate the semi-random behavior of the zombies and I always die to them. At this rate I may just have to do Abomination first (before the Flood and Gate of Ludd, two levels that are really easy to die on).

That can be slightly annoying, but once you have triggered them, you can do large arcing jumps and they will try to jump towards you.

For Abomination, after getting close to them, either grab one of the tops of the building and start jumping as high as possible from the side of it or jump from one side to the other side.

If you feel more confident, you can actually jump over them as they don't jump as high as you.

For Swine, I'd recommend destroying at least 2-4 of them as this will make the stage much easier than it usually is.  Other than that, their triggers are quite random regarding distance; but once you see it move towards you hopefully you're going full speed in the other direction or you have jumped over it.

Niiice, congrats all around to you.

You had so many close calls during this run, I was getting antsy myself. Anyway, you really deserve a lot of credit for doing this. I only used Meat Boy for 8, 9, 19, and 20. All of the rest of the levels were done with The Kid.

I'll be working on Girl Boy now, let's see how far I get.

And congrats on getting Missile Boy using only Meat Boy, Tuen!

Well, from what I've been doing so far.  7-7 and 7-18 are a pain in the ass.

7-7 because I have an (ir)rational hatred of fans.
7-18 because it's just plain evil.

If you're going for the hardest stages first, then I'd definitely put those two on the top of the list.

6  General Stuff / Video Games! / Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Nintendo Suck (OR Oh How The Mighty Have Fallen) on: January 25, 2011, 11:33:26 PM
It was already said some time ago that Nintendo 'dislikes' their hardcore fans and would rather cater to a much larger fan base.

However, their system was long outdated before it even came out, yet it didn't slow down sales because of a rather crappy gimmick.  As a matter of fact, all they did was add more and now you got people exercising with it and dancing.  Ugh.

As a gaming system, it fails pretty hard as I still have more launch / 1 year from launch games than other games that came out later.

-

I actually have (and play) more DS games than Wii games, which is unsurprising since they really can't do much to mess that up.  That's probably why they're so eager to release the 3DS.

As for your points.

10 - Agreed

9 - Strongly Agreed

8 - Haha, it's so bad.  Then again I kinda expected this as Nintendo is not up to snuff with online when they really need to at this point.  Hell, the DS doesn't even use Wireless G or AES security, which means you have to lower your security of your Router to a dangerous level if you wanted to take your DS online.

7 - Yea, both the Wii and the DS have an alarming amount of shovelware.  It seriously makes me wonder how all of these companies even release games for them as most of them are terrible.

6 - I actually haven't bought a new Wii game for more than $50.  Too bad the majority of them are still not worth that price.

5 - That's a problem with a good number of game creators.  It may cost money, but there are some great games that I'll never play because I simply can't read what they are telling me.  I really can't just put the blame on Nintendo on this one.

4 - This was answered higher up in my post.

3 - I'm going to have to agree.  Not only that, but a few of the sequels were just plain terrible or not changed enough to make them worthy of purchasing.  Sure, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby: Epic Yarn were actually good games, but then you also got Metroid: Other M and Super Paper Mario that aren't worth recommending.

2 - Didn't you hear?  3D is the wave of the future!  It's going to redefine gaming!  Yea, I certainly do miss the old Nintendo.

1 - Considering their success outside of hardcore gaming, I don't think changing would be good for them at this point; which is why games like Just Dance 2 can outsell DKCR.  What a waste.

ITT: We clarify the OP's topic by saying games released in the year 2010 only.

Pretty much.

I'd rather have a Top 10 games list rather than just 2k10 tbh.

I swear most of you would flinch if you saw a saw blade in real life now.
10  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Let it rain on: January 25, 2011, 09:30:59 PM
It looked fine (in a sadistic sort of way) until I realized that you had to actually use the sliding wall jump glitch to do one of the parts of the stage.

11  General Stuff / Video Games! / Re: What games do you play? on: January 25, 2011, 09:23:33 PM
Right now (in the order of time I'm spending on them):

Super Meat Boy
Monday Night Combat
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
CoD: Black Ops (even though I'm getting increasingly tired of it)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift
Super Street Fighter IV
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (I need to get to finishing that)
12  General Stuff / Video Games! / Re: Minecraft on: January 25, 2011, 09:19:18 PM
It's pretty good, especially if you can get some friends and a server.
That was a fun two months...

Only lesson I can say is if you finally get a dedicated server, make sure it's a good one.
13  Super Meat Boy / Meat Helping / Re: Super Meat Boy Soundtrack is it good on: January 25, 2011, 09:14:11 PM
Its good, but unless you play the game it will have no emotional impact on your ears.  It would be like if I downloaded the God of War soundtrack despite never playing the franchise.

That's not always true.  Ive played a large majority of game music in video games that I haven't played before, and have enjoyed them thoroughly.

The impact is usually stronger with the game you play them in, however.

As for this game's soundtrack, I would buy it.

What a big relief... I finally succeeded in getting Zombie Boy! I told myself no at first, but after playing through the levels, I decided that I should be able to do it.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/73L/stats/SuperMeatBoy

My stats:

Meat Boy = Piece of cake
= Completed through a bit of practice
= Very frustrating, but got it
= Got it, only after much blind rage
  = Maybe...
  = Maybe not.

Forest   /  Hospital  /  Factory  /   Hell   /  Rapture  /  The End  /  Cotton Alley
Light World:       Meat Boy    /      Meat Boy      /      Meat Boy     /       /      Meat Boy     /      Meat Boy      /
 Dark World:           /            /           /       /           /            /

My least favorite levels: 5-5x, 5-7x, 5-8x, 5-13x, 5-16x, 5-20x
Order of levels played through: 5-13x to 5-20x   ->   5-5x to 5-12x   ->   5-1x to 5-4x

And if you're reading this KC599, I'd like to see your run of this, too.  Meat Boy

In my current furthest run, I have gotten to 5-20x.  Died on the 7th saw from jumping too soon.
Unfortunately I forgot to save that video so my most current video is going from 5-1x to 5-18x and dying.

Hopefully I can at least get it tomorrow.

I'd probably already have it if I didn't set my own evil rules, lol.
