1  Super Meat Boy / Tech Support / Error message on startup on: July 02, 2011, 11:09:30 AM
When the new ticket achievement thing came out today, I decided to copy my old save file to my new computer so I wouldnt have to redo all the levels I beat before to get the achievemetn. So I copied the Gamedata.dat file over to my new PC. I try to run super meat boy from steam, and I get an error.

"Fatal Error

Could not open file: pc_med/Menus/editor.tp
 Returned Error: 3"

I do not get the dialogue box saying an error report was sent, and meat boy closes out.
I am running Windows XP, and was able to run meat boy just a few days previous on this PC.

2  Super Meat Boy / Meat Helping / Linux? How will that work? on: April 11, 2011, 06:50:45 AM
As you all likely know, Edmund has told us that Super Meat Boy is headed to Linux. This makes me happy.

But, it raises one large question. How will it be distributed for Steam users?

For Mac, they have the whole "buy it once, get it on both systems" thing setup, but Steam isn't available for Linux.

Will we have to re-buy the entire game?

When it came out, I was hoping to use SMB and it's editor to hold me over until Portal 2.

While I played and enjoyed SMB so much, it got me hyped for the editor, which was supposed to hold me over until Portal 2, but instead got delayed itself, making me WAIT for the update that was supposed to help me WAIT for Portal 2.

...

AND I F**KING HATE WAITING!

...

Why must all my favorate companies (Valve, Mojang, Team Meat) all delay their games so much.
Ask yourself this: would you rather have a high-quality update that is well-polished or a rushed update that is riddled with bugs and fatal errors?

I know what it's like to delay an update, it's almost always because the developer feels that it is unready or still has flaws. Hell, I've been delaying something since May of last year and it still hasn't been released yet because there are still things to iron out.
Yeah.... But the problem is that if they don't think they can make the date, don't announce a release date.

Take for instance, the new Dear Esther remake.
There is no release date mentioned, except for summer of this year. Because there is no definite date for it, and so little media has been released on the remake, if it's delayed, It won't matter to me as much.

Now, lets take Portal 2.
It was first announced back in March 2010. It was slated to be released in the 4th quarter of 2010. It was delayed to February 9, 2011. I didn't mind the delay. First off, I expected it, since it IS Valve. Secondly, the date wasn't very specific. And thirdly, we didn't know much about the game yet. Then in November, they delayed the game to April.

Despite this only being a 2 month delay, it was a blow to the face to me. The release date was to the point where I could begin counting down to the release, and trailers had set my hype level through the roof.

When you delay something that people are expecting VERY soon, the delay just becomes all the worse.

The Editor was delayed practically the day it was supposed to release. Thats what makes the wait so hard for me.

8  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Differences between 4bit/4color/8bit meat boy on: February 26, 2011, 10:33:08 AM
I knew there was always something about 4-bit Meat Boy that made me feel better than normal. I thought it nostalgia pumping through my veins

Same. I always liked 4-bit, but I thought it was the retro meat stains that did it for me.

13  Super Meat Boy / Meat Helping / Re: Super Meat Boy Sprite Sheets on: February 11, 2011, 08:48:00 AM
I think you can rip the sprites and graphics using the tool from this thread, and also edit them and save custom sprites into the game. However, I'm not sure if that's entirely true or how technical it might be to go about doing that, but it's worth a shot :)
I asked them in their forum. No good. It cant rip sprites yet.
Talking about sprite sheets and the like, isn't that missing one thing?
I was under the impression Meat Boy wasn't a sprite, but a basic 3D model on a 2D plane. Is that not that case? Maybe he's 3D rendered into 2D sprites, or maybe it's just his cubic nature confusing me.

The other guest characters are sprites, but Meat Boy seems 3d-ish to me.
Na. They use a "pre-rendered" 3D, or a 3D image rendered as a 2D sprite. Kind of like Super Mario RPG.

14  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Sprite rip on: February 11, 2011, 08:44:56 AM
So... Could this be used to rip the character sprites from the game, edit them, and then put the modified sprites back into the game?
As of now, no, you can't. I need to document the palette files better, before I write the code. I can unpack palettes containing a single sprite, but I've yet to successfully unpack one with multiple sprites inside.
Alright then. If I cant use mods to get the sprites, I'll have to do this the old-fashioned way...

Bugging Tommy and Edmund on their twitter accounts.

TO THE TWITERSPHERE!!!!
