What's the best character to use on 3-18x and what i the best way to get the key and back again?

Viridian. Flip on to the ceiling as soon as you touch the ground and then walk across and grab the key. You'll have to jump at least one saw, but you can practice the timing. After you get the key and the tiles on the roof start disappearing, you can stay up there completely out of the way of the saws until you have to jump back down.
