Hey, just wondering. Did anyone else notice the flash game Edmus?
www.kongregate.com/games/pouchmouse/edmus
Basically you could do something similar in SMB as well. That everybody uploads their best replay to a central server and you race all of those (or maybe the best 100 or something) simultaneously.

Your replay/leaderboard ideas are fine as well, but other than that, this game doesn't need all the changes here. It's already way bigger and more in-depth than most other $10 games on Steam/XBLA... COMBINED.
That seems fun, like a giant mash-up of the best, and you can compare to find the most efficient routes.

Well, I know they're not neccessary, but I think it would add some fun and playtime to the game.

Edited main post.

As the title suggests, these are just additions to the game that will never get implemented because Team Meat is done with Meat Boy.

  • My Idea of Multiplayer
Honestly, I know that not everyone would understand the point of multiplayer on paper, as my opinions are just live-action ghosts, but check out this game. I think that plenty of people would be fans of marathon levels with designated checkpoints. That way, death would be likely on most levels, and not make it a battle for the most effective speed run. Also, players should be able to upload ghosts at will. Players in online matches will be color-coded.

Also, one game mode could be called Screen Scramble. The player in the lead dictates where the screen is focused, and once off the screen, you are out. Last man standing wins. It could be randomly generated levels, based on templates. I'd imagine this would be a pretty good party mode, along with hotseat games for players with only one controller.

  • Leaderboard System
Everybody knows that the leaderboard is broken, and I mean straight up screwed. I propose a replay system for the top 100 times on the leaderboard, unless the player changes that in his options. This isn't the only thing, and the next thing may be a large factor to some people. The leaderboards would be run by Team Meat. Meaning that everyone on every console could be countered into the leaderboards. Here are the leaderboards run: Super Global Filtered (only shared characters are listed, and console exclusive reskins) Super Global Unfiltered, and Global (same console only.) This means the best would be the very best, and the second best could call himself the best in a different way. It would bring unification to the community, and a greater need for speed-runs.

  • From the Start Map-Making
Just to be a buying point for impulse buyers, whom look at the back of the case and see from there. I'd also love a warp zone tileset or two, none of the special ones, just castle sets, and half-tones.

  • A Few Character Ideas
Personally, I'd like to more original characters enter the realm of playable characters, and not just be reskins.
An idea of mine from another thread.
The runner from exit path. (See: My Idea of Multiplayer)
A character whose generally better than meat boy, but in sprinting everything is treated as a fast-forward version of his regular run, such as traps, dissolving tiles, and gravity, but not the recording time.
A character whose ability allows free movement in the air (360 degrees) for about .3 seconds per contact with a traversable terrain, but moves slowly during that time.
An extremely lightweight character, just to have.

  • Character Worlds
After beating a character's warp zone, players unlock a mini-world or even full world specifically for that character. Personally, I think it would attract customers for the crossing over developers, without spoiling their game, and also, I really enjoyed playing Jill's and Ogmo's warps, and want more double-jumping and air-braking fun.

------

Also, in the game options, there should be a snap-to-wall slider, which dictates how quickly Meat Boy slides off a wall, ranging from no-stick, to killing-you-every-time-you-try-to-slide-off.

I actually tried a little sample of it. It doesn't seem impossible, and if you get good at it you could do an unofficial speed run of the level with it.

Are you talking about The Kid 2 challenge? Because I already completed that (video will be up monday or sunday, I have a terribly busy weekend sadly) and I don't want to see that bloody level ever again.

What the warp? You spent the time to do that? My lawwwwud! Have a couple bandages (it seems like they have a real purpose, but I haven't spent the time investigating it, so id you know, please tell me.)

Beat the Kid 2 using only the third elevator.

Umm... how are you actually suposed to do that? Beating Kid 2 using just the 2nd downwards elevator? I don't really understand how that works...
I meant the only elevator he would be allowed to use as they're meant to be used is the third one.

Children have abortions daily.
Chicken headed aerial dynamite.
Chick- Hell, all 'dem.
Childish Hash of Awesome Deaths (that actually works)
9  Super Meat Boy / Suggestions / Re: Dr.Fetus as a character? on: May 25, 2011, 02:01:02 PM
Bandage Girl, and then Meat Boy takes her back at the end of every level.

Or brownie.
10  Super Meat Boy / Suggestions / Re: Dr.Fetus as a character? on: May 25, 2011, 09:42:17 AM
I'd like for him to be available after beating The End's Dark World with A+ times.

Weight: Heavy
Speed: 4/5 Meat Boy Sprinting (Dr. Fetus doesn't have a speedy sprint, just an ability, like Tim.)
Jump Height: Meat Boy, maybe slightly less.
Special: [He must be in the air to do this] Dr Fetus teleports where the joystick or arrow keys are facing, with 360 degree capabilities. After teleporting he has a good bit of momentum. There is no slowing phase before teleporting as I've heard Naija does. He wouldn't go through walls, or even go very far, possibly 3/4 of what I've seen Naija do.

He could possibly have seperate leaderboards, but I don't think he's game-breaking enough to just not have them.

Beat the Kid 2 using only the third elevator.
12  Super Meat Boy / Meat Talk / Re: Have you unlocked The Kid? on: May 22, 2011, 12:07:11 PM
I've unlocked him.
Time taken to unlock him:
Kid 1: around 30 minutes
Kid 2: around an hour and a half
Kid 3: closer to 2 hours

Kid 1 advice for people who haven't beaten it.
Those straight drops are pretty easy if you don't just hope to god you go straight down. I usually flick my joystick left and right quickly, so the flicks sort of counter themselves out and I fall straight.
Take your time and sometimes just stick do a couple of wall jumps to stay in place. There seems to be some designated rest areas on the level, so you don't have to rush.

Kid 2:
Relax and have patience. I find myself rushing some direction changes and screwing up the whole ride.

Kid 3:
I beat this after watching a walkthrough. Once I saw the proper way to get between the rows it all snapped together.
Take a break after every few attempts. The way the game chose to put on the ground running after every failure made me crazy.

General advice:
SLEEP ON IT. This is how I beat the second and third levels. I got oriented to the levels, and tried my hardest, but then left my xbox running overnight. I came back to both levels in the morning fresh, and continued to beat them quickly.
Take a bit of a game-plan time out when there's a wall you can hang around on. It kept me personally relaxed and patient. There's no need to A+ these levels.

All in all, crazy hard experience. Easily amongst the hardest in my gaming career- that I've conquered.
