Welcome to the LCC! We invite all members who have a knack of making and testing levels for us. Me, cousinoer5 and RockLeeSmile are the current leaders, though I've sorta taken over for the moment. This will show progress of chapters and levels, the members and their creations and hopefully alot more once everyone gnaws into the editor. This is only for funs and stuffs so don't think we're taking over the forum. (We might sooner or later. Infact, I'll start making armies of drones now.) This is a Steam group btw, but you can discuss here as well.

So, lets get started!

1. Steam Name: Insani
2. Maker
3. Projects finished: None, waiting for level editor to come out
4. Projects working on: Retro for all ages, occasional experiment
5. Time making levels per week: A few hours
Note: After the editor crashed after ~2 hours of making this one level, I've decided to stay away from devmode and wait for the real level editor.

Not to completely piss on your chips, but I fail to see the need for a layer of completely self-appointed bureaucracy on top of what otherwise has been quite a healthy, democratic and organic process.

Why does anybody need your validation or permission? What are your credentials? Who elected you as community elders apart from yourselves?

There's already this entire forum for people to post ideas, WIPs, and another thread for people to include their chapters. This topic is totally unnecessary and purely serving the egos of the people who have quite arrogantly declared themselves leaders of a completely pointless club.

Apologies if I seem like i'm going overboard, but the existence of this topic actually greatly annoys me for a multitude of reasons.

When it was first created, it was made to be a tight knit group of people figuring out devmode.  We were trying to weed out the people with no motivation so that we could grow more knowledgeable on its inner workings.  Of course it is kinda silly now that most of the tricks are on the videos GproKaru made.  To be perfectly clear, this was made prior to the videos explaining how as well as these forums and all those WIP posts.  And we didn't want the vast majority of steam clogging up the process of pulling apart devmode.

So for all intensive purposes, the "application" is just a formality at this point.

Also, I didn't join for my ego.  Can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure the feeling is mutual.  My ego is more obsessed with pussy and drugs to be completely honest.  I joined to for the above reasons of pulling apart devmode and creating content.

In fact, the only people who have any validity to do something like this would be the game's creators, and possibly NovaSilisko, seeing as his got the official seal of approval. I personally don't recognise or require the permission or praise of anyone else, and would urge others to feel the same way.

Apologies if I seem like i'm going overboard, but the existence of this topic actually greatly pisses me off for a multitude of reasons.

Actually, hybrid and cousinoer have both made levels.  In fact, cousinoer has made tons of levels.  gpk figured out a good portion of devmode and made the tutorials and how-to videos that fueled others to pick up devmode creation.  rockleesmile has also made a ton of levels too.  As far as superiority and rank go, steam forces you to do such things since it is a steam group.  It's not like anyone in the group can tell you what or what not to do.  It's all just formalities that you're blowing out of proportion.  More than anything, it's just a club now that all the secrets of devmode have vanished and should be treated as such.

Not everything is some communistic attack on society and our personal freedoms, despite the fact that the entirety of the internet is totalitarian and you should be used to that hierarchy already.  And in Hybrids defense, he was just letting people know it existed if they were indeed interested.  It wasn't meant to stroke off egos.  A vast majority of how the club operated was through group chats way back when and has since stopped due to figuring out devmode.  We are planning to utilize it as a hub of sorts in the future to test level creations, give suggestions and let people know when we up something of value.  This essentially means opening it up from a tight knit group to a larger audience could be valuable since a lot more than just us will be creating levels once the editor is out.  Who knows, maybe the next nova is hiding amongst us but refuses to touch devmode.

I know the hierarchy pisses you off, but as I previously stated... ALL steam groups work this way, as well as all other aspects of internet life.  This forum even has a structure to it.  Owner > Admin > Moderator > the rest of us.  About the only power those people hold on the steam forums is invite and removal.  So it's really not like they are going to go all Kim Jong-il on the community.

No, I just detest people who try to turn a creative, democratic process into a bureaucratic, elitist one, especially when they self-appoint themselves as leaders of a community and request people to formally apply for their completely unnecessary validation.

As I said, I apologise if that isn't the case, but it seems that way to me, and your trollish reply reinforces that to me.

Also, I didn't join for my ego.  Can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure the feeling is mutual.  My ego is more obsessed with pussy and drugs to be completely honest.  I joined to for the above reasons of pulling apart devmode and creating content.

Not referring to people who joined, but the people who created it. The only person I would recognise as having any shred of seniority on level design is NovaSilisko seeing as he got an official nod of approval. Anyone else is just engaging in self-aggrandisement which only serves to turn people off.

We have an all-inclusive forum here for this exact purpose. Creating an exclusive club within it with silly little titles and levels of seniority is both pointless and slightly inbred and will only serve to make newcomers feel excluded (which I suspect is the entire purpose of it, which is what annoys me so much) which in turn will stifle creativity, which stinks.

So... I actually started the group. If you're gonna direct vitriol somewhere, I suppose it goes to me.

Hybrid sent me a PM saying he's opening a new LCC group, and I told him don't bother, just stay in the one we're in already (I started it back around January) and I'll promote you so you can add more people if they want to join. I wasn't trying to make anyone upset, the point of the group was so when you needed a map tested or had tips, there was a group of people you could chat in Steam with. I wanted them to all be trust-worthy, so I made it invite only. Eventually we mostly migrated over here and the group went dormant.

I never saw this application before it was put up, or asked for one to be used. In the past I would just ask people to provide a link to a map so I could see they had the game and the tools set up to eliminate a small group that would be annoying and unhelpful. That was pretty much my only rule.

I had written a few FAQs in the group board and a couple got posted up in these forums, but I was hoping we'd have our own group info repository. It was a wholly positive thing and nobody was trying to make anyone feel bad, just help each other further our levels and improve quality all the way around.

Nova, GproKaru, and I all made significant contributions toward the collective knowledge that became available in various forms and some of it was a direct result of the group existing.

That's my take on this...

Ok, this was clearly a picture of Batman, so I'm going to bed now.

Man, everyone is so touchy on forums... I'm actually scared to post in that other thread about the do's and don'ts of level design.

I know the hierarchy pisses you off, but as I previously stated... Well this is pretty much my concern. It'll be intimidating enough for newcomes to want to break into creating levels, and announcing an "unofficial/official" place for people to submit their work annoys me as I feel it'll turn people off at the first hurdle. It really shouldn't have the term official anywhere in the title.

Yes, places have hierarchies, but I prefer them to a minimum and only as much as is necessary. Intalling one for level design is not one where any is needed. Creativity should be as democratic as possible.

Again, I apologise if I have the wrong end of the stick, but the OP basically doesn't explain the breadth of intention that you did, or the fact this is an actual Steam group and on initial reading just seems to be trying to set up an exclusive and selective club on this forum that people must all of a sudden need their WIPs and time commitments pre-approved by before they are allowed to start experimenting, as it doesn't provide any context.

I'm not trying to shit on anyone here, but just got annoyed as it seemed to me the whole point of this thread was to make newcomers feel unwelcome or a level beneath veterans, which I felt was pretty shitty and needed righting in strong terms as I hate internet elitism and didn't want anyone new to feel they had to ask permission to express themselves.

I may have come across as a dick, but my intentions were noble.

Yes, I see your side. It seems like you do from the post, but just to be clear, you get where I'm (personally) coming from now?
