No multiplayer.

Every game doesn't need god damn multiplayer, it is ruining gaming.

I don't agree that multiplayer is "RUINING GAMING" but it is unnecessary, If you want to beat your friend, just use the leader boards. You can start voice chat and play the same level at the same time.

Do you see how inconvenient and limited this is?  Local multiplayer would be the best thing about having any type of SMB MP.

I don't know why there's so much negativity towards the thought of multiplayer in the last few posts.  It wouldn't turn the game into call of duty or anything...Are you guys bummed that portal 2 is going to have co-op?

I've been thinking about this too. Would be cool to race friends, or maybe even co-op of some form. +1

If the devtools could eventually allow it, it would be great. Even if they considered it for SMB2 (If they ever make a second, I assume they will) I would be pleased. I don't feel like SMB was designed with multiplayer in mind, so it's hard to say.
Nnnope. Team Meat feels that a sequel would be nothing but a cash-in and tarnish the original.

..I disagree, but that's what they've been saying.

As for multiplayer: It doesn't need to be limited to time trials together. Think some.. minigames? Like collecting bandages or levels that scroll, pour in obstacles and make the game about survival. Last player standing wins. Or maybe a "get the crown" kinda thing, one player keeps an object away from everyone else.. Then there's straight-up tag, etc. Levels could be designed to compliment them

Game has a lot of potential for some fun & accessible multiplayer

So, as expected, Team Meat isn't going to add multiplayer.  No big deal - they've clearly been very focused on single player from the start. That's good, because that's part of why it's such a good game. They had strict design limitations that allowed gameplay polish.

However! How modifiable is the game? Could a good modder add any kind of multiplayer?

I doubt Team Meat is interested in making the game's inner workings more accessible to fans, but if they were, that could certainly be the answer. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have access to SMB and modify it like Half Life 2's Source engine? Wouldn't it be wonderful if SMB's code or part of it went open source? Probably won't happen and isn't relevant yet.

So, what can we do with what we have? Just change tiles?
