Yes, Team Meat stated that the maps created in devmode will be fully compatible with the new editor. It may be that maps created in the editor won't work in devmode though, and if I remember Edmund's tweets correctly, devmode will be disabled once the editor is out.

They're essentially the same thing, it's just that -devmode isn't user-friendly.

Yeah. I quietly wish that devmode will be removed only because the editor has more functionalities and bigger limits for things like the number of waypoints and total objects. That would make maps created with the editor incompatible with devmode... But, I'm just dreaming.

Those limits are set because if you go over them they won't run on other peoples pcs or xbla

I basic had the same limits, but I went by frame rate
