This thread is to compile several popular ideas which would be relatively easy to implement in the game. Of course, I'll start off listing things I'd like, but anyone may make reasonable suggestions.

Please note that these are meant to be SIMPLE things, so suggesting that the functionality of certain characters be altered is outside of this thread's scope.

And so, without further adieu, players would like to...

-Have 5 (or perhaps cumulative) lives on Warp Zones, and/or be able to start at the level they died on unless they missed a bandage. At the very least, PLEASE make Warp Zones just reset on Game Over, rather than kick the player out and force them to reload it again and again.

-Be able to see "Ghost Bandages". Grey bandages which take the place of formerly attained bandages and give nothing if collected, but still make the pickup sound and display "BANDAGE GET" when the level is completed.

-Be able to select Meat Boy substitutes (Brownie, Potato Boy, and once unlocked with the petaphile code, Tofu Boy) from the character select with up or down when Meat Boy is highlighted (or cycle through them with shift on the in-level select screen). The retro Meat Boys could be added to this division. Putting in a character code would still work as normal (if for no reason other than to hear PUSH THE BUTTONS!).

-Be able to play as other characters during boss fights, The End, and Cotton Alley once they've been cleared once. If it can be conveniently implemented, make bosses available in stage creation (which could lead to them all getting unofficial Dark World levels).

-An optional per-level death counter. Would work best if it can be reset, as it would mostly be for overseeing survival runs.

-Have the ability to go to the next or previous level from inside of one (or after for previous, making the "X Boy" achievements less annoying to get. I cannot emphasize enough how far a little streamlining goes to alleviate frustration).

-Have the ability to use the keyboard in Super Meat World stage selection.

-Have right Shift also make Meat Boy run, and be able to toggle Run as default movement with Shift being used to walk. Being able to change the controls would also be nice (some IWTBTG veterans will equate shift to jump).

-Wipe bugged times from the leaderboards. If convenient, add a way to view the replays of submitted scores and vote them as bugged/hacked.

-Have the character used show on leaderboards, possibly with a filter to see a specific character's best times.

-Only see A+ if the time the level was done in that round was an A+, rather than always shwoing it once an A+ has been gotten once.

-See their completion time upon finishing a level, rather than having to wait out the replay. Perhaps also see the A+ time required when doing a level they haven't A+ed.

-See and save replays from individual warp zone stages like any other level.

-See ghosts of hazards in replays so that failed attempts are not shown as simply vanishing.

-Have the option to see our best times on levels appear as semi-transparent (ghost) Meat-boys.

-Have more detail on the death count (how many timed each World killed us, what killed us, etc.)

1 removes the point of the warp zones (although restarting you from W-1 without going back to the map would be nice).

I agree with the rest though.

-Make an option to select a "low death run." it would take you to the world map and show all the levels as incomplete. When you beat them, they show up as cleared. And if you died, you would get one to the death counter. It'd make keeping track of levels you've beat in such runs easier. Sorry it's not the easiest thing to explain.

You could make it like Jumper 2, which kept track of how many times you've died in each level.

Not exactly my idea, but yeah an (optional) death counter would be pretty sick too.

Infinite lives would ruin the retro feel of the warp zones. They are there to piss you off, and they do a good job of it.

Anyways I have to agree that having the option to select every character from "switch character" is an awesome idea.

Maybe fix Josef so he is actually fun.

But why is the point of warp zones to be a massive, progress-eliminating pain? Last I checked, games were supposed to be fun, and I don't find having my bandages revoked and having to reload from stage 1 over and over again fun.
Simply that they're 8bit captures the spirit of retro games.

Eh, they're really like big levels - you don't really get anything out of the warp zones without finishing them with the bandages regardless. They're a bonus challenge, with some slightly different rules.

But really, read: http://supermeatboy.com/16/Extra_credit_/#b

Skyscraper is the only Warp Zone that's REALLY hard, regardless. But that's mostly because it actually has long levels - most of the warp levels are really short.

Perhaps the challenge of a Warp Zone is warranted, but I still abhor being dragged through mundane parts over and over again, especially with the slap in the face of having gained nothing. Even if the three lives rule is maintained, it would be much more tolerable if the player started on the first level he reached which has a bandage to acquire. In some Warp Zones, this wouldn't change anything unless the whole thing is beaten after getting the level 1 bandage, but not the other one, while in others, this would just stop wasting everyone's time with the first level.
This would be even better if compounded with not being ejected from the zone whenever you fail and having to reload it. Even simple streamlining would make it seem much less arduous.

To be honest I'd really like to see a color palette change for the Cotton Alley.  I hate the faded pink/grey look, same goes for most of Rapture actually.  I'd really like to see a color palette that contrasts Bandage Girl's color w/ the levels really well.  The Forest and Salt Factory did this amazingly w/ Meat Boy's red color, great artistic design.  But I just think overall Cotton Alley and Rapture's color palette are hideous.

Think of each stage as checkpoints in a really big stage. But streamlining would indeed be liked.

so..even though the char select screen is for the editor, maybe it will be for in-game also.I don't see any difficulties in port it form the editor intro the main game.

Pretty much this. I'd love to play as the other characters during Boss Runs, the Cotton Alley, and The End.
