Kind of short notice, but there will be a streamed race to the Light World ending + Cotton Alley starting in roughly 2 hours (currently scheduled for 4:22 EDT).  The race will be between myself and another full game speedrunner by the name of joe, we're hoping to get through inside of 35 minutes.

This is a part of a much larger game marathon put on by http://speeddemosarchive.com called Japan Relief Done Quick.  It'll be running all weekend and will feature some of the best players out there blazing through some great games.  We're raising money for Doctors Without Borders and have a bunch of cool prizes for donors.  So swing by and check it out, and maybe donate a little money to a good cause while you're at it.

Full schedule of games can be seen at:  http://speeddemosarchive.com/marathon/schedule/

Race is over.  I got smoked pretty much in the main game, but had a strong Cotton Alley and eked out a win.  Good times.

Like I said in the first post, this running all weekend, and lots of great games are still to come.  Be sure to check it out!

I disapprove.  How does playing a game and charity relate to one another?

People are interested in seeing speedruns of their favourite game, and therefore donate money?
I have no clue really, but it's more fun than just a 'fundraiser' imo and I love what SDA does.

I saw the entire run and you both took way too much risk at the end of Omega. That was really a huge time-waster. All the rest was just mind-numbingly good.

He's getting the attention of a large audience and asking for donations to Japan while putting on a free show. The gaming aspect of it is meant to entice us to watch and possibly donate. It's much more effective than just coming on the forums and saying "Donate money to Japan plz".

I thought I would use this thread to point out that there are live races sometimes played (not for charity anymore, afaik) at #speedrunslive@irc.speeddemosarchive.com (IRC).

Most of the time, these are "any %" races using Meat Boy, that means you must beat Dr Fetus, and are allowed to skip 3 levels per world.

I have been streaming my past races on ustream like many other SRL members do, but it's not required. You can play on console or PC.
My current "any %" time is about an hour, which, like you can guess, isn't *that* fast.
Anyone can join.

I hope some of you come by so that we could organize more SMB races :)

No interest in racing ?

I was hoping to resurrect Super Meat Boy IRC channel (#meatboy@Rizon) and provide funny challenges as well.

Online racing is analog to playing SMB in multiplayer :)
I like Individual Levels speedrunning (the only category the leaderboards account for, along with 100%), but there are times when not having to replay levels 300 times to get the perfect time, but instead just get the best time possible in one single run is a pleasant change. I'm sure some of you like it and probably already do it. If so, why not come over IRC to have fun racing together ?

I'm down for racing on speedrunslive, but I've been really busy the last couple weeks.  I gotta move over the next couple days, then I'll try to get some races in.

Thank you for the feedback, Mopjoyovans, I've just sent you an invite to Super Meat Boy live runners group btw.

Since this topic was originally for the charity race and my post was on the way to dying (if not for your answer ^^) I think it's better there were another topic for live running in general, so I have created another there !
