If the game ever comes out for Wii why not Mario? After all he had the first SMB game 

Also the animals from Castle Crashers or even Tommy and Edmund?

Edit: Any chance of a custom character editor? Design the characters you want and add 1 ability to them.

That would be great, like set it up so you draw him yourself, then add a single pro from the list, and a single con.

The downside is that with a limited number of pros and cons, eventually every combination would be done and the only thing different would be the skin.

Not really.  You could still mess with speed, jumping distance properties of the ability etc.  For example, give someone 12 super tiny jumps, give someone Naija's ability, but so powerful that you won't stop until you hit something (like a parabolic vertical Spelunky), give someone Naija with a negative value so it shoots you downwards, etc.  The possibilities are quite expansive.

You're talking about a more expansive system to what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a list of options, of which you drag one in for pros, and one for cons. I like the idea of being able to fine tune options, but that means you could say, give it super speed and a minor downside to make him overpowered.

There is a fine line here, you can't let someone break the game unless you have a Steve situation where they can't hit leaderboards.

Ah, I see now.  I was picturing the character to either not be leaderboard okayed, or only usable in your custom chapters made for him.  I see now.  I would be happy with custom character support even if they were just skins honestly.

Sonic: form Sonic the Hedgehog - he could just be a reskinned Meat Boy (there both fast)maybe he could have his spin attack that would make him go really fast?

Scrooge McDuck: from DuckTales - Jump off some hazards with his cane?

Arthur: form Super Ghouls N' Ghousts - Double jump (Like the kid but he wont be able to change direction as he jumps)

Hunter: from Left 4 Dead - Jump(pounce)really far(Like spelunky)

Scout: from Team Fortress 2 - double jump

Sub Zero: from Mortal Kombat - He would be like Mr Minecraft but he wouldn't be able to take away blocks, he would instead be able to form ice blocks that he could use to stand on or avoid hazards.They would melt over time or get shattered when hit.

Hell yeah his power could be shoting his megabuster downward to boost his jump(Like alien hominid)

Also I though of another character

Master Shake: from Aqua Teen Hunger force - his power would be using his "Shake Power" to shoot him left or right in mid-air(basicly a re-skinned Niaja)

And upload it to the char portal. Anyone can download your character and play it whenever he wants.
But leaderboards would be disabled for downloaded character.
And maybe making a chapters with these characters? :D
I bet someone would recreate characters from XBLA version to PC.
