So over the weekend I've dropped like a rock on the leader boards even tho I've played a lot. (240 to 270) Breakdown suggested that the portal 2 event was to blame and that people would download a 100% save and use that in order to gain access to the full game.

This would make sense and while doing some research on this I found close to 40 guys with the same score on the leader boards. Check the bottom, then it goes on for 2 more pages

Have they "always" been there or can you actually get on the leader boards by just downloading someone else's save state?

I care about the leader boards, It's what makes the game appeal to me. Sure you can mostly tell what times are legit, but I don’t really want to guess. I'm not demanding anything from Team Meat here as I’ve gotten more than my money worth of awesome game from you guys, but could you please look into this now? The game is sort of built around competitive times and leader boards so I feel that this should be fixed.

To me this is more important than editor, new levels and all that stuff. (I know some will disagree hard, but again this is my opinion)

Are there technical limitations to "fixing" the leader boards or if it's just down on the TO DO list?

If it's manpower you need I'll offer to help out in any way. :)

While I agree that the leaderboards should be fixed, it's kind of like trying to fight dogs pissing on fire hydrants.  With people hacking times and whatnot, it's not really a winnable war...

I'd say if you are really into the leaderboards, just compete w/ people in your friends list.  That's what I do anyway...  But I don't expect the leaderboards to ever be fixed, much less have a character organization that it really needs.

Well it depends on what the problem is. If the client just re-uploads a time that have been deleted on the server side, then you would probably have to set "blocks" on times. Example: any time under 0.7 seconds would not be permitted to be uploaded from the client and if you got say 0.02 or any of the likes it wouldn’t be saved client side at all. If it is already saved then you could let people replay the time or have it forced to 0.001 less than A+.

This would at least take away the accidental aspect of it all. (People who got those times due to bad luck)

The hackers could then just set 0.7 on every level, but again this would seem a tad suspicious as well and individual banning would probably be needed.

I’m hoping that it is just a matter of having time to look into it. As we are looking at 250 levels or so needs checking. If one of the Team Meat guys had to do it then it would take anywhere from 1-4 work days. And I understand that they dont really have the time.

Overall I would be more or less ok with it if people hacked times that put them into say top 10 after a purge. As most of not all of the top players have tons of stuff on Youtube. So if one guy goes from being a nobody to rank 2 over night, then people will know that something is up and especially if he got no replays of his own to show for it. This would also be way easier to track if the leader boards were clean to begin with.

There are tons of other features I would like to see added to this in general. Like having your record time show while you play a level, separate boards for Meat Boy and the other characters, Replay file showing the time of the run. Replays not being off by 0.1 second. Replays being easier to navigate etc. etc. But for now I’m just asking for a leader board purge of some sort.

I'm trying to not bitch at the problem here, but to find a solution and help out if I can in any way. :)

I've noticed it too, dropped so many places and I've been playing quite a bit. So damn annoying.

Hey, thanks for pointing this out. That kinda ruins my...entire speedrun progress.
Also, replays need a serious fix. Mine are usually off by way more than 0.1s. Usually up to 2s.

I went from 189 to over 200 in less than a day (yesterday), and i do have some times less than .5 secs, using alt i have some times like .3. make it 0.1 if they do put a cap on times.

-edit-

I think more BS times in the 300's are showing up, mabe from a hacked save floating around somewhere. my time was like 2100 which is near impossible to beat legit without the alt thing.

Cheers for the support on this guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares about this :).

Ive been keeping track of the similar times over the past 2 days since I got aware of it. At first I thought I was just being outplayed by other players as I'm still rather new to the game. But I notice a steady increase in similar times.

In the last 24 hours the time 291.84 jumped from 12 to 15 entries (Rank 32-46)

The time 306.84 went from 40 to 42 entries. Then back to 40 and now up to 43 entries (Rank 88-129). This probably just means that one or more of the times in that save state are so bad that players who play the game for the first time can beat it/them. As seen by the tons of times just ahead of 306.84.
