It's not because the jumps are that inherently difficult. The problem I have is that, when I wall-jump and land on either belt, sometimes Meat Boy will pause before sliding up and sometimes he won't. I have no idea how to consistently get one behavior or the other, so I am completely hopeless at the parts where I have to jump back and forth a lot.

Is there any way to force him to pause (or not) before sliding?

I'm not entirely sure, but I thought when you transferred from one side to another, like pressing jump and moving the analog stick simultaneously, then you should have a very slight pause before the conveyor belt starts pushing you up quickly. Have you tried watching a video of the level being done? At 3:52 on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqxpXePN2YM you can watch how I did the level.

I know how the level should be beaten, thanks. The problem is that I don't know how to make MB land and move so fluidly. I've tried every combination of directions and jump timing and all of that that I can think of, and he never consistently moves the same way for me.

To 100% make sure the pause will happen dont hold sprit and just give a quick tap to jump
( not sure about the sprint part )
I belive that what matters is the angle you land on the belt from and your speed..

EDIT: the sprint dosent matter ( for this stage )
if you only use no sprint and short quick taps of the jump button its very easy.
