Hoping this topic will cut down on people having problems.

Shift will not scale your objects, it will move them closer or further from the view plain (giving the impression of them growing or shrinking). Make sense? Just use CTRL until you are ready to try some advanced maneuvers.

I've stopped counting the number of levels I've seen on SMW that have parallax gears and obstacles.

Here's another tip for you all: DON'T UPLOAD EVERY SINGLE LEVEL YOU MAKE. Your first few levels you'll make will horribly suck and will be badly made. Just shelf it and make your next map afterwards look better and play better.

Finally, watch Edmund's tutorial. Everything's well explained here and it'll show you the basics on how to make a good level, gameplay-wise and graphic-wise. Hopefully that'll put a temporary end to the forest tileset levels with no background detail, no camera settings and the horribly oversized objects.

I'm very saddened by what I saw after trying out random levels for an hour on SMW for the first time. It's one thing to just make a basic level, but another thing entirely to have nearly no grasp on what you're doing and have a complete disregard for aesthetics. Then there's like 2 pages of the same level which is cool too. Hope the unknown can eliminate some of this lameness.

@eyeball Or you just not click on levels with the name "test" or "sorry zomg lol" :p Atleast that does work a little bit for me!

About the ctrl mistake. I also made this mistake a lot in the first few days. I never uploaded a lvl with paralaxx tho! Oh and i also hate lvls without any aesthetics!

Sometimes i feel bad for people who make very nice levels but get kicked to the second page because some noob posted his ugly lvl 10 times lol

honestly, there should just be a filter for levels that have the forest tile set, are 50x40, and have no camera settings

I think there should be a status given for "trusted" authors who can have their own space to publish after getting their work featured. I have a hard time believing that after proving their worth they'd revert to making beginner style levels, so that would be a cool way to have a space for mostly all decent to great content. This would essentially put Edmund in charge of quality again and probably make everyone try harder in general.

It should also allow trusted authors to manually set their par times, just as an option if you actually did your run too fast to make it generally a good time for people who haven't played your map 100 times (yeah I'm actually arguing that I'm too fast sometimes).

I'd agree with that. If anything, there should be a feature allowing you to manually adjust the par time, but also making it so that it can't go below the mandatory limit of your time + 10%. This way, people won't be able to set par times that are way too low to make the A+ run impossible.

I uploaded most of my chapter today and I honestly have a hard time believing that people will be able to A+ them... not that the game mentions that accomplishment or saves it anyway.

Yeah, I really like your idea. That's something that could be added for everyone, not just trusted authors and it would still be fine.

I was working on a worded tutorial for tips on level aesthetics. I sort of stopped after the video tutorials came out, should I continue with it?

Also, I agree with that "trusted author" idea.

Yes please. The community can use all the help it can get in this department. If you need anything from me for assistance, just ask, I'd be happy to contribute somehow. Thanks!
