Trials HD & Super Meat Boy

CastleVania 1 & 3 on the NES and Super CastleVania IV on SNES.

These were challenging and lots of fun. One of my greatest video game achievements was beating the original CV without losing a single life, I did it on 2 separate occasions.

Adventure Island on the NES (Wonder Boy on the Sega Master System), I could never beat that game when I was young, and God knows I tried!

BattleToads (NES) Very fun game but VERY hard, couldn't finish that one either...

Ninja Gaiden (NES) The entire Trilogy is tough as nails.

Kid Icarus (NES) Cute game but deceptively hard.

Bionic Commando (NES) Another very hard and worthy game in which you can't jump.

Donkey kong country! ( not new one )

I haven't played the new one, I only saw a Let's play, but while the normal games looks pretty easy. The mirror mode seems to be quite hard (One live, no diddy, no items).

Some of the Mirror Mode stages for me make Super Meat Boy seem easy.

Bit Trip Runner is not exactly VER HARD, since you can't really die,

If you must put it that way, then you can't really die in any other video game either. Bit Trip Runner is like Super Meat Boy where you have to start over at the beginning if you fail. Just because Commander Video doesn't explode into a puddle of blood doesn't mean anything in terms of difficulty.

My god am I glad to finally see someone else bitch about Rayman 2 being a pile of crap.

Ray-Man was delicious.

Gex was delicious (only the first one, rest were lame as crap).

Mega Man X4 is still my favorite platformer of all time, just for speed running (go play with Zero, do a no death run, have fun).

You just wasted your time reading this information, as it is useless, and as such you wasted your time. Furthermore, you wasted even more time by reading this statement, a it is just as useless as the prior. So, not only did you waste time, but you wasted time after wasting your time. Make your time

The new RayMan origins is 2D and is one of the best looking games ive ever seen.

Let's also not forget Sonic Generations.

I found a fan made 2.5D adaptation to Sonic 2, and asked myself: "Why would Sega let just some guy show them up? This looks better than Sonic 4 did."

Well, this is going to be one hell of a Sonic game from the looks of it (2.5D version of Sonic 1, and a "Day Stage" mode to go along with it. Day stage meaning Sonic Unleashed day stages).

So what exactly DEFINES a hard-core platformer then? Death count? Speed? Complexity? What?
