Focus by jesse venbrux is a really great insanely fast-paced platformer,

I had forgotten about Focus! it has rockets that go way way faster than the ones in SMB or N+
Great platformer, though more about jumping than jumping.

Agreed.  Mega Man 9 was really really good.  Its too easy though.  After the 2nd or 3rd playthrough I could plow through it in under an hour.  I'm still not that good in 4 or 5, and they're the ones I play the most.

Mega Man 2 is the best MM game. Hands down.

I couldn't get into IWBTG. I really like a challenge, but beginners traps are not fun. Dying is only fun when you died because you screwed up, not because something fell from the sky without warning and killed you.

VVVVVV was awesome but really short. I guess it wasn't really the length so much as there were very few parts that were actually challenging. Just when it started getting hard, it was over.

Spelunky is pretty fun. The platforming isn't exactly "hardcore", but it's a difficult game.

Jumper was pretty good. The challenge was there, but it didn't have the polish of SMB.

I have a handful of reasons why Mega Man 2 isn't the best, but honestly it all comes down to opinion and I don't want to derail this thread since it still has the chance to bring me to some hardcore platformers  Meat Boy

Well, the music in #2 was the best in Mega Man history imo.

I like 9s music overall better, but 2 has a handful of the best songs in the series.  Does that make sense?

If not let me try to explain a bit better.  If I had the choice between listening to 2s soundtrack or 9s I'd pick 9's hands down.  However, if I was to pick the best three tracks from each game and pit them against each other, 2 would win.

4 has my favorite music of all, but that's 10,000% nostalgia based so I'm not counting it

Mega Man X is pretty tough.

People make super mario bros/world rom hacks that are super hard.

I just bought VVVVV yesterday.   It is pretty awesome.  Worth $5 for sure.

Super Mario Bros 2. The japanese version.

If you die (pretty easy) you restart the world. If you are beat on 5-4, you begin on 5-1. Imagine that on Super Meat Boy. F*ck!

PD: My PC crash when I try Might Jill Off

Is the Japanese version harder then the American one?
