Could be sound card related.

That causes a lot of crashing on steam games.

Try right clicking your game in your Steam library, and go to properties. Click "launch options" and enter "-lowdetail -windowed -1024x768" without the quotes and then hit OK. Launch from the Steam library. I know this has worked for others, so it's worth a shot.

Ive tried the launch option thing and it didn't work and I don't knOw what to do
If it's the sound card????

The one thing that kinda worked is this, I went into the super meat be folder and changed the Exe. To compatability mode for windows 95 (I have xp). This allowed me to play the game but it didn't show bandage girl on the screen or any Obstacles such as saws ( even though I could still be killed by them. I managed to complete the forest like this until I got to the boss level where both meat boy
And the boss didn't show up on the screen. Weird huh?

After a reformat mine was crashing until I manually re-installed DirectX (9.03c ?) from MS's site.

The game has been working flawlessly before the recent update. Now it just crashes before it even gets to the gamepad screen or goes full-screen. I tried running it in low-detail in windowed mode, but it didn't help.

I'm seeing the same problem. I've tried all the suggested command line options, they don't improve matters. I've updated both graphics card and audio drivers. Nothing works, I always get the 'mini-dump' error message. Direct X is up to date. It looks like this is a retro game in every way, right down to the amount of effort required to get it to work.

I just got this problem as well and found a fix that worked for me.
In Steam right click the Super Meat Boy and then chose properties
In tab called Local Files you can check the integrity of your game cache.

For me one file was missing 220bytes and it only made Steam re-install Direct X when I started meat boy again.

I just bought this game on Steam, and it crashes whenever I try to run it. It gives the error about creating a mini-dump. I have tried the DirectX update, upgrading my NVidia drivers, and running in windows mode.

I'm just about done with troubleshooting. How can I get a refund? Even the email form on the about page of the website gives me an error.

Edit: Okay, I was able to get it working by running vcredist_x86.exe in the Prerequisites folder.

I've tried pretty much everything by this point. Here's my problem:
When I try to play the game, the steam message "preparing to launch Super Meat Boy" comes up and then immediately closes out and nothing opens.
Here's what I've done:
-I've checked to see if my comp can run it, and it definitely has the requirements to run SMB. It's pretty powerful.
-I've tried putting the launch options on lowdetail windowed and changing the resolution, didn't work.
-I've tried running the vcredist x 86 and x 64. The 86 worked but 64 popped up an error message of "install.exe is not a win32 application."
-I've ran the directX most current version setup and it's up to date, still didn't work.
-I've verified integrity of game cache, still did nothing.
-I've deleted the content and re-downloaded the game more than three times, but still did nothing.

I'm so annoyed by this persisiting problem.

Try updating your soundcard drivers, as mentioned somewhere.
