I saw an article (not on Team Meat's blog) awhile back about jumping in platformers, specifically SMB, that Tommy commented on and I'm looking to find it again. I believe it went into the math of how jumping works with arcs and bouncing balls and stuff. Any help finding it would be awesome.

I don't get the reference to bouncy balls. I think you mean that, when walljumping, the corner inward is equally arced as the corner outward?
Anyway for platformer controls, basically you need a jump button and gravity, and you need to decide how freely the player can move in mid-air. You also need to decide if prolonged pressing of the button will affect the jump height. I'm not a great programmer, but I can usually get this much working. Walljumping is a matter of personal preference; basically every platformer handles it differently. Just look at the differences between N, New Super Mario and SMB.
