Patapon is a PSP-exclusive franchise that has been going on since 2007 for Japan, and 2008 for everyone else. The gameplay has you taking on the role of the Ultimate Patapon, the god of a warring tribe of one-eyed cartoon characters. The gameplay consists of hitting drums (the face buttons) in different patterns in a measure to make your Patapons attack, defend, advance, and such. The series ended with Patapon 3, which had a huge increase in difficulty and grinding to level up your patapon A-Team, made up of 3 patapons, an Uberhero (see above) and Hatapon. Hatapon is the flagbearer in your army and if he dies, you lose the level, which is the main loss objective other than having your entire army die.
There isn't much story, but the original starts with the Patapons destroyed from thier former glory by the red, squareish-eyed Zigotons. The Zigotons had a prophecy in which the patapons will destroy the Zigotons should they regain power. You take up the role as the Ultimate Patapon and help them fight. The story only picks up when P3 starts. The new army destroys a big box and demons inside turn all of them into stone, save the select few you actually use.
