Hi guys, I just started playing a couple months ago, sweet game.  I'm wondering who holds the top spot for non-cheater/modders.  My best guess is Za Fuuru or Murdoc Loch, but could be wrong.  Anyone?

Most people who speedrun regularly have one or a couple of glitched 0.00s times. It just happened randomly when the game was just out. I think I owned a 0.00s time as well, somewhere. It's impossible to fix these, sadly.
So this makes it very hard to tell who's legit and who's not. Lowest overall time is a tough one, because pretty much nobody records a speedrun of all 310 levels, so there's no proof. Recording also influences your gameplay, so even this wouldn't be perfect. People usually speedrun just the  any% run, which is up and until the first ending, the light world The End boss.

Really depends on the character/s you main as well.  You can't really judge a Runman/Naija main against a Meat Boy/Kid main, because their ceiling scores will always be lower on one side.  That said, 73L/Tunnelingeffect is probably top 50 "legit" Global Steam Leaderboard-wise.  We've all got 0.00 glitch times somewhere though, their impossible to avoid and erase too...especially if you've been playing since release.

So yeah, rate players solely on their consistency and mains.  I personally haven't gotten around to speedrunning all the levels so far (I'm a Meat Boy/Kid main although I do have the rare Naija/Runman run here and there).  And I'll break into the 2650 secs with that main at some point.

73L is #1 on almost everything, and there are a bunch of other people who are really high ranked like myself, alwayssleepyguy, Kaide , and a lot of other people that don't come here anymore.

The most active on my Steam friend list seem to be Jintek, 73L and Breakdown.
If they keep playing their rank will probably go lower and lower. Breakdown has only been doing Meat Boy records, I don't know if he will do a second pass later (using Naija and others) though.
At the moment, I think 73L is holding many many IL (Individual Levels) records, thanks to his great mastery with Naija.

As TunnelingEffect said, many proficient players seem to have stopped playing.
But the competition is still alive, in my opinion !
After all this time, a few any% and no-death runs have been surfacing at SDA (Speeddemosarchive), and we are not far from having an entire Meat Boy IL table. If we had an entire table, then a new page would be created there and people could start submitting more video for people to compete.
If you feel you can help getting these lists complete, please record your times on video for later submit. Not trying to do advertising here, but I feel this could help keep competition alive. Besides, it would be sad if you spent a long time doing great records for nobody being able to watch them, wouldn't it (be it at SDA, Youtube or elsewhere) ?

I'm still doing runs, not really for IL, and especially not for PC.  I finally just got my recording situation fixed, and will prob start running ILs on XBLA again.  I should be able to fill out the XBLA IL table by the end of the year or so.

73L is insane and has also invested a ton of time into this, I doubt anyone will ever beat his global time in this game. As far as I know the top legit globals on Steam are

1. 73L (~2045)
2. Alwayssleepyguy (~2228)
3. TunnelingEffect (~2304)
4. Emmawatsonsbf (~2365)
5. me (~2465)
6. Roboticaust (~2469)
7. Nicco (~2572)

I'm pretty sure this at least was the case the last time I was playing. I don't know if new challengers have a appeared since then but I'm not holding my breath for anyone to start trying when most others have already left. The irc channel where we had like half the top players died long ago and personally there's nothing driving me to push my times anymore. For global times, just going through all 250 levels to get a reasonable time on everything is a pain which not many have felt like going through. One sloppy time from your first playthrough accounts for more than huge amounts of grinding to perfect a handful of others. If I ever find the motivation to finish and do Omega and No Quarter properly I could drop almost 40 seconds.

Also:

My main is "whoever is fastest on the level at hand", as should be everyone else's who's competing for level times. Anything else is dodging.

That's true too, for me though I just mainly tried to speedrun with Meat Boy and the Kid because I enjoyed using them the most.  For most levels I just didn't find Naija or Runman very fun, and admittedly I'm not too good with them.  Maybe someday I'll get the itch to really invest in Naija and Runman but being the fastest time out there wasn't ever really my goal, just wanted to have fun.  I was decent I guess with Meat Boy and Kid but I'll never be 73L, TunnelingEffect, Breakdown, yourself-type fast I just never had the motivation or energy.

I do wish Donkey Kong Country Returns had LB's though, that's one game where I'm curious how I stack up.  I was decent at Ikaruga too at one point on GC.

@Jintek Ikaruga is hardcore.

Runman was such an immense amount of fun to me so I took him as far as I could, I have many of the top Runman scores, and some levels where Naija dominates I stuck a Runman time right near the top. Levels you wouldn't even think he would be good on. I really took pride in that, silly it may be. Probably the same way a Meat Boy user would get an amazing score and stick out like a sore thumb in the tops.

It's kind of strange to see team meat interested in the game again, perhaps they will deliver on these updates? I get why they lost interest after so long too, so I'm not bashing them or anything.

I wonder if TM would be open to enabling MEAT NINJA on the leader-boards, sure he would break a few levels but it's not like it matters at this point.

I love N.
I've also played N+ on psp, but it was way too easy.
Anyway, I think that if I hadn't played N, I would have spent a lot more time on playing smb to get 106%.
It's a shame that there aren't leaderboards for N+.
But at least you can't be mad about glitched/cheated times because there are none.

Impossible to say as you never know who has 0 times. I don't have any (have been lucky i guess).

I have some of the best times on Xbox and world best times on certain levels too.
(Here it is for some of them : http://www.youtube.com/user/franzn81)

However, so many guys top me on the main leaderboard because they have so many cheated times. And i never see those same guys on the individual levels leaderboards, strangely ! ;>
That not all. Some very good players have also some glitches times they scored with Hominid or Castle Crasher for instance -- thing that i never do, so i can't compete reasonably on the global time calculation.

Lately, i focused on the 100 levels of Teh Internet and i got 1018 seconds currently (10,84 on Puberty -- who goes faster than that ? ;p) and i'm only 6th (if you don't take into account all the obvious cheated times - like 0 sec overall, or 300 levels accomplished instead of 100, etc.).
Kyoshi Yozima, Slinky SS have like 920 - 950 seconds and i barely believe it. They never answered my questions on how they make that happen with legit times... whereas i have excel files where i sum all my times (for both main game and Internet levels).

My conclusion is to know who's the best players in the world are, forget about the main leaderboard, just check who's appealing on the levels themselves.

On Xbox, the best players are BruisCypher, myself and Choffidge. Period.

For what i know, the best on PC are 73L, Exo and Kaede.
