From the Steam forums, comments from Edmund on Steam Cloud support:

Quote
Edmund McMillen answered the question of why the game won't get Steam Cloud:

it has something to do with the current state of our build, its unstable and if we ♥♥♥♥ around with it more it will break. this is a big issue because all the tools we used to make it are way out of date because tommy has been working on the new engine for the next games.. so we cant go back at this point.

i doubt there will ever be steam cloud.

My feeling on this is that it does sort of suck for a game like SMB to not have Cloud saving due to the nature of the game/accomplishments.  But at the same time I'm a old guy who's used to walking my saves from one PC to another, so not too big of a deal.  But would have been more convenient, but Dropbox works well enough.

Only other thing is, did Edmund just say that the current build of SMB is "unstable"?  A year seems like a while for a game to still be unstable to me, and I do still get very rare clipping and frame issues on my new i5 2500k Sandybridge/GTX 580 setup, and laptop.  So hopefully if nothing else it becomes "stable" one day.

Awesome.

I get problems here and there but it is usually because of my resolution, once in a while I will crash out of nowhere in Super Meat World, and very very rarely in the main game. I wonder what is so "unstable"

Just from my experience with the level editor, it seems pretty stable nowadays. A vast improvement over what it was when it was released. I still get a retarded "delete something and everything goes into auto-paralax mode" though. I think that's my laptops fault.

Edit: Ah man, I just checked the steam smb forums, they are way more active than us... Maybe I should create a level thread there. Oh and tim is actually "outtatime" It works. Just played all of light forest with tim, hes pretty fun.

Why did he say "outoftime" with it was "outatime"? Whatever, not complaining.

Regarding the steam cloud, I see where they're coming from. The build of Super Meat Boy is very unstable. Even with the previous update it caused many crashes. But, at the end of the day, it's just laziness on their part. Oh well, hopefully shit like this won't happen in their next game...

So it's official, Tim can beat every level in the first five worlds!

But he's absolutely useless for speedrunning.

Oh, you didn't have Tim before on Steam ? You know, i got a few to scores with him on XBLA competition ! But you need to find what his use...

I'd like to know from a steam player all the characters you have, it seems to me that you have plenty.

Its about lying to your customers that BOUGHT your game. You know, with money. I dont like this.

Cloud support was never advertised as a feature. Just because Ed promised it on Twitter a while ago doesn't mean it was ever definitely going to happen, and if it was a reason anyone bought the game that's their own damn fault. Remember how it was going to be a WiiWare game? Yeah, things change, welcome to the universe.

However, it's still complete bullshit that Ed is treating us this way. Seriously, all he had to say was "Sorry guys, SMB won't be getting cloud support". No need to be a dick about it.

Its not about being a dick, I just dont like that they promise stuff and then "lol no". This time it was Steam Cloud, and 6 months to level editor, when it could be out after 2 weeks, and then go for Meat World. Who knows what would be the next time?

See? Now we are talking. Is not so hard to say it.

My point is: I learned from SMB that if I buy the game, Ill get what the game has, but the promised stuff... who knows what could happen to it.

Oh, thank you for this clever information Sr. Domi. Hopefully you're there ! I was near to forget that's it's dumb to ask questions about SMB on a SMB forum  And that, as Google does exist, we could probably delete that forum for good : all answers can be found outside. Thanks for your intervention

I haven't had any freezes but at least 1-2 levels in each chapter have terrible framerate issues. Wasn't there supposed to be 5 new chapters added though? I hope something didn't go wrong with uploading them again because I doubt we will ever get them if that's the case.

I also noticed very bad frame rates on a couple of them. so bad that it made wall jumping difficult. there was also space in the main menu for another 2 chapters (said coming soon or something). not sure if thats still there or what.

also no kid chapter either which is a bit shit.

character changing is an option too which is cool
