Every time I try to launch SMB it displays the xbox controller and proclaims how gamepads are better then fades out but just gets stuck there. The screen at which it is stuck is all black except a rotating star in the lower left side of the screen.

Now I have tried just about everything I can think of to fix this, I've updated my graphics drivers, made sure direct x was up to date, launched the game with -1024x768 (my resolution), launched with -refresh 60, reinstalled the entire game, validated the game's files, tried windowed and fullscreen mode, gone into the steam folder to set the exe to run as administrator, and tried running the exe in comparability mode for XP sp3.

I really can't think of anything else to try, so I was hoping you guys might be able to help.

Huh, that's pretty bad, do you have any other things working at the time, or is your computer a bit laggy, because I know how incredibly laggy my game is, it takes 7 seconds to get out of the black screen in the hospital.

No my computer is not laggy at all, when I look at the task manager while it's frozen it is only using 40% of my cpu and I don't have anything else running.

I have the same issue.

Turns out if you window it and keep it open for 5 minutes, It provides an SQL error then keeps going

Same here, it takes a lot of CPU, is your taskbar full?
