Okay, I've been fiddling with the camera nodes and bounding boxes to try and get them to work.

How do I create a level where the camera follows and remains centered on Meat Boy?

That's my main question, but if anyone could share some general tips on how best to utilize the camera that'd be great.

while in camera mode, hold shift and mouse1 to drag a red bounding box around the area you want the camera to move around in
to make it so the camera will move, you need to set the spawn point as the camera waypoint
you can also adjust the camera zoom settings, which I highly recommend doing anyhow

Another problem I've been encountering is that when I finally get a camera that follows Meat Boy, obstacles I place on any layer start moving around, which is problematic when I try to place lava pools that are partially hidden behind rock (the rock tiles on Layer 4 and the lava on Layer 5) Then when I walk away from the lava pools they shift and just appear to be floating in midair.

How do I work around this, because I feel it has something to do with the camera...

it doesn't, you were trying to use shift to scale the objects, but shift only "shifts" them, if you will (moves them in and out of the foreground/background)

the actual key for scaling is ctrl

Another question for anyone that might read this - why do objects follow me when I move from left to right in some circumstances? I am not using Shift to scale them. For example, in the defeault room they give you when you first load the Editor, I'll drop to the bottom and place a saw, not using Shift to change it. Then, as I move from left to right the object moves also, fucking up the hitboxes (I checked with the semicolon hotkey) and it's relative location to the rest of the tiles / obstacles. How do I fix this?

Also, if I don't use a bounding box for the camera, how exactly do nodes work? Whenever I place one it just shifts the camera onto it and causes Meat Boy to forever spawn offscreen and die until I delete the node and recenter it on the spawn node. Are you supposed to connect the nodes, place them evenly, weave a node quilt, place them at random? I don't understand how they work.

as for the "objects still being shifted without using shift" thing, I'm not quite sure

for fixed cameras, place a node in the middle of the level (or wherever you want it to be) and make sure to set that node to be the camera's waypoint, make sure that everything relevant to the level is inside the waypoint's zoom level

I had that bug too, I also had objects flickering and most were completely invisible when I tried to place them. Another bug I had was the editor froze up when I was placing a large amount of tiles.

Hey, this is my first post and I'm also a level editor noob but i found the solution.

The objects shift if the position numbers are incorrect. The numbers at the right side of the screen. They must be 0.00. Hold shift to scroll it to 0.00 (that's also how you scrolled them from 0.00 to something else).

Anyways, Good luck!

Hi, I am less than a level editor noob..I've just started, step by step to copy the "boxlevel" dear Edmund has made for us in the tutorial. Forgive me if I will be making stupid and banal questions for the next year. I hope you'll be patient, because i am starting from zero.
About the camera, why do i cannot select a single camera node by right clicking? What's wrong? With more nodes it usually work, if there is just one there's no way to get it selected (green).
I am at the 1:35, second video of the tutorial and I simply would like to do the same as Edmund.
(is the layer scrolling autamatically after he selected the node and dragged on the selected area or his he doing with ASDW? What's the point to select a camera node then?)

Another strange thing, if I switch from camera mode to Play Mode (F1) Meat Boy explodes repeatedly on the screen is it a bug? How to avoid it?
Thank you guys!

P.s. i dont know if it's relevant I have a 4:3 screen and due to someone advice in this forum i forced -1280x720 -windowed through Steam's launch options. I hope it was a good idea.

Whenever shit starts happening that doesn't make any sense, such as exploding repeatedly, save and quit the editor then relaunch and reload. Same goes for weird hitbox issues. If you're stuck and confused, just restart the editor first.

As for the previous answer about objects following you around... that post about resetting your z axis to 0.00 was exactly right. It can get left on the wrong number from a previous object placement and it won't reset itself automatically.
