I bought Super Meat Boy as part of the most recent Humble Bundle, and as a result is not part of steam but a standalone application. I see no options to configure my gamepad, nor anything to change the resolution and make it full screen. How can I accomplish this? None of the support posts here are applicable, since the game is not being run through steam.

I have figured out how to change the graphics settings from a post here, but the gamepad settings are still a mystery.

I am running Mac OS 10.7.2

Ah, it is good to know that I am not the only one having a problem with this. I hope someone comes up with a solution soon.

I too can't configure the controls, but I am using Win Xp. I have an xbox 360 controller and the official driver, but the controls do not match up with the ones on screen

The controls have to be edited in a config file in the directory it was installed in. The file's name is "buttonmap.cfg" and how to edit it should be self-explanatory once you open it in notepad or the like.

Yeah i've found the Blog post from 12/10/10 on how to customise controls, but problem is, while it says the game is by default mapped to work with the 360 Controller, but it's not working correctly. The config file is set with the values 1 and 3 for A&X as jumping/running, and my gamecontroller settings do highlight 1&3 corresponding to A&X but ingame the B-Button works as action (menu and jumping) while the Y button is used for cancel, and start/menu does not work at all with any button. Or for short: The config is set correctly, but Ingame it's still wrong.

Also I can't map any action to A-Button , no matter which value I use

The problem with control mapping is that it only changes in-game controls when you're INSIDE A LEVEL. It won't do anything for menu navigation. You're gonna have to figure those out yourself (they are mapped to something usually on most controllers) and stick to them, whether you like it or not.

I know that the mapping only works inside  a level, doesn't change the fact that i can't map the A-button at all, and like I said The game tells me to use a X360 Controllers, the Blog post tells me to use a X360 controller, so why doesn't it work correctly  with a X360 controller? Under Windows? With the original Driver?

Please forgive my computer based ignorance, but I am finding myself completely unable to find the config file. Could anyone give me any advice as to where to look? (I have OS Lion, if it helps, I know that the new operating system shuffled around how some of the files are organized.)

Yes, the problem is with the humble bundle version, there is no buttonmap.cfg file anywhere on the disk.

I am experiencing a similar problem with the Humble Bundle version.  Basically, the jump key on the XBox 360 controller is super-unresponsive.  I've tried turning down graphics settings to see if it's lag but it's not getting any better.  It's basically rendering the game unplayable.

Turns out running it with lower graphics settings helped resolve it.  Would be nice if that was configurable rather than having to mess about with links, but I guess it's a bit late to be asking for that now.

Hey all.

The buttonmap.cfg file for Mac OS X is inside the app bundle. Right click it and select "Show package contents..."

Here's the actual URL for the file assuming you have the game in your main Applications folder:

/Applications/SuperMeatBoy.app/Contents/MacOS/

Hit Command-Shift-G and paste that in. Then locate the buttonmap.cfg file and set it to always open with textedit. When I was messing with it, I actually just kept it in my Finder sidebar for easy access well getting things straightened out. Its limited. It only affects the buttons in the actual gameplay. Menus are still borked. For this reason I switched to a trusty keyboard mapper instead.

As far as editing the command line options for the DRM free version on OS X see my original post below.

First off, read this blog post for a better understanding of the command line parameters as well as how to change them in the Steam interface. Its actually pretty easy.

What's not easy is figuring out how to do this with the DRM free version that doesn't use steam. Well, lucky for you I've got your answers.
-Open Automator.app
-Create a new application
-In the first column select "Utilities"
-In the second column double click "Run Shell Script"
-Leave all settings default and fill out the text panel like this:

-"nohup" prevents the game from quitting if you were to quit the launcher.
-Also notice that I use a tilde (~) at the beginning of the file path, thats just because I have a user applications folder in my home directory (something everyone should do, but thats another story) if you have the game in your system level Applications folder, simply omit the tilde.
-When you're all done, save the app as something descriptive of the settings and place wherever you like.
-Profit

Thanks a lot, however changing this file does nothing at all.

This may be helpful to someone else out there. I had a rough time getting my PS3 controller to work with the non steam version.

I'm currently able to use it on my MacBook Pro through bluetooth with an app made by carvware called GamePad Companion. You can find the older free version of this app easily enough and it hasn't limited me with Super Meatboy.

The other piece of puzzle I needed was a dictionary of the PS3 controller's buttons:

#1 = SELECT
#2 = L3
#3 = R3
#4 = START
#5 = DPAD UP
#6 = DPAD RIGHT
#7 = DPAD DOWN
#8 = DPAD LEFT
#9 = L2
#10 = R2
#11 = L1
#12 = R1
#13 = Triangle
#14 = Circle
#15 = X
#16 = Square
#17 = PS Button
#18-19 = nothing

I still wish I could fullscreen the game though...
