There is still the "friendlist leaderboard", which is for me the most important.
Yea, same for me.

Agreed. I'm constantly texting my friends about how they'd better log onto SMB and beat my times when I manage to beat theirs by .01 second.

This literally happened to me:

Time: 16.02
Me[Sending Steam Message]: FUCK YEAH SUCK IT YOAV
One Minute Later[Yoav Sending Me a steam message]: 15.45 SUCK IT JARRED
Me: FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

It will be cool when someone thinks got the "First Place" (highest non-cheating place) should post the replay!

For the time being and possibly forever, the leaderboards will be borked.  There was talk of fixing it but with the level editor and talk of never altering the code to this game after its release, hopes of a fixed leaderboard are vanishing.  At any rate, if you really want to take the leaderboards seriously, add people you know are legit and compete with them.  There are quite a few things I would love to have fixed in this game, but since it's already too damn late, we are s.o.l.

Personally, I wouldn't mind a patch that completely wipes out ALL times on ALL levels and forces everyone to reclear the levels to submit a new time, with proper validations and safeguards in place to eliminate cheating entirely.  I also would love it if Tommy would finish implementing the damn ghost feature.  Make it so your current fastest run can be seen while you are playing a level, and also gets submitted if you make it in the top ten to this site (php/mysql should be childsplay if you know c++... and yes making it able to clear out anything past a 10th position is more than possible).  The file size for such data is super tiny and creating a small line of code to view those top few submissions via in game would not be hard either.  I personally would LOVE to be able to actively compete against my current fastest time or someone above me for that matter.  The code for ghosting does exit because it's what fuels brownie and dr fetus in their respective boss stages and also fuels the replay function.  It would not be hard to save the very fastest on a level and replay it as you play the level, nor would it be hard to download someone elses fastest into a temp folder the game flushes out upon exiting; so you can view it along side your current active run.  The biggest fix that would need to be made is causing the ghosts not to trigger bandage girl like they do in the mass replay function.

I realize this idea does remove a lot of that mystery as to "how the hell did ___ get that time", but honestly, most people will not be able to replicate a lot of the fastest time submissions.  Also falsified time submissions could be viewed by countless other players and can then be flagged as bullshit so someone with the authority to do so could erase that players time submission and cause their game to unclear said level upon next opening.  I know this is entirely possible with steam cloud.  I seriously hope Tommy reads this post and replies.  And if this is far too much to ask for, so be it.  I understand this project has already taken up a lot of your time and you're beyond ready to move on.  But as a huge fan ever since the very first flash prototype, I feel it would be a great injustice not to speak up and offer my ideas.

While we are at it I love the leaderboard as is (sans cheating of course), but I think leaderboards for each character on each level/ overall would be cool as well. Just think of being atop the tofu boy leaderboard with 2 beaten levels (totally a guess, I know he can't beat the first level but there has to be one or two he can beat somewhere...).

EDIT: Just looked on youtube, people have managed to beat more levels than I expected with STB. Did expect some of them to be ones where you only really drop :P

Sorry to toss a wrench into this idea, but if you strip out the glitch, boss and warps, you are left with 250 levels.  Each of these levels has an individual leaderboard.  250 is fairly respectable, but making each level have a dozen leaderboards is just ludicrous.  It's definitely more than plausible, but still a bit extreme and unnecessary.  Plus this would totally alter the way the grand total time is calculated (and I really have no intention of time grinding every level with every character.  I'd rather enjoy the new portal and editor).

The intention was to have all the extra leaderboards as an alternate thing to do as opposed to a new system of calculating overall rank. It would definitely be overkill, the theme of the thread just seemed to be fun ideas rather than implementable or good ideas.
