Here is the error screen (I kinda saved it funny so it's rather small, but still readable):

We've tried a lot of stuff but none of it's worked so far... We did the thing in that sticky topic saying to try that if nothing else worked, and for a moment, it seemed like it'd solve the problem, but no cigar. I didn't really see any other topic that looked like it addressed this issue, so if anyone can help us out, that would be wonderful!

Post your specs, especially the video card.  My initial recommendation would be to install the latest graphics drivers for your setup, but you've probably done this.  You could try uninstalling the graphics card drivers and reinstalling.

Also, if updating your drivers doesn't fix it, reinstall DirectX.
