Although the points brought up in this thread are all good ones, it really perplexes me as to why people just love to suddenly bitch about nintendo for no reason. I mean, just don't buy their crap if it makes you so mad.

I mean, if someone says "OMG wii sports is my fav game FTW!!!" Then you could respond with your rebuttal.

But posting a 4 or 5 paragraph rant about Nintendo just seems a little... unprovoked?

Just go play Call of Duty or God of War 3 or whatever makes you happy and try not to think about the HORRORS that Nintendo has unleashed into the world of the gamer, and I bet you'll cheer right up.

If Sony and Microsoft go in this direction, all the industry will have left is PC gaming.


At that point, it will become such an underground market for hardcore gamers and video games being an equivalent to art that the industry will fall into a plummet of chaos again like in 1983 due to the lack of quality being shown.

There's a difference between degrading a material possession and degrading all who are in possession of said material possession. Not only is it completely irrelevant to the intended topic (ripping on Nintendo), it's also a sweeping generalization.

I agree, to an extent. After all, check the forum you're posting on; Super Meat Boy is a great game. But Nintendo is a big company, and can pay lots for advertising (not to mention, their generally positive reputation already gives them huge points). It seems that the best games reside under this surface, and are ignored or rejected by Nintendo. Mother 3 is a great example. This doesn't mean that great games wont exist, it just means that they might be more difficult to find. Obviously Nintendo isn't the sole cause of this, but it would be nice if they focused on releasing more quality titles rather than guaranteed money-makers. But to be fair, they are a business, and they want to make as much money as they possibly can.

Dear god, will you SHUT UP ALREADY? We never defended Nintendo, the wii, or the people who mindlessly buy those cheap rehashes of games! However, I and a few others take a little bit of offense to the statement:

Overall, I am AGREEING with you on the subject of Nintendo. However, it's not fair to make generalizations about everyone who supports them in any way, shape, or form.

Well, you should not forget something. Videogame is an industry, a business.

Nintendo, especially with wii, too an abvious casual posture - much more than PS3 and XBOX360. As a result, they were selling the most consoles.

PSmove and Kinect are just a response to that : In business, it's bad if somebodyhave a monopole. They wat to position themself into Nintendo's field of activity, and the sell are big.

But blaming Nintendo for it is lame. They just anticipated the mutation of the market before the others. When you owns a business, if you have the choice between investing a lot for little returns on investment or do little games with huges benefits, you do not hesitate much. And if they sell that much, it's taht people wants it.

This way of thinking can be extend to the rest of the industry. Why to release free aditionnal content when ppls are ready to pay 20€ for 3 new maps? Players want easy games - or actually interractive movies because there is nothing more to play in it. And the industry turns to what peoples want. Take Shattered Horizon for example. The game looks beautiful, they have dedicated servers, it was sold 25% of the price of Modern Warfare 2 (15€ on launch), a new way of playing and a really original gameplay, free DLCs with new maps, new equipment... But they sold nothing of it, because the game it not easy. Who says new gameplay says adaptation time. And most of players don't like to have to adapt to a game.

In general, I agree on the fact that the videogame production go to a wrong direction for the players. But beside some indy games who got released on the right time at the right place, all attempts to make games "gamer friendly" are big fails. So, it'l logical that investors put money on casual/motion gaming, interractive movies with no gameplay and Iphone/android apps. There is no point on blaming Nintendo for that. If they didn't took that direction first, they might as well not exist animore - as Sega died couple years ago for bad strategic choice.
