Hi everyone. I'm yanksin1st, and the title of this post is the tl;dr. I'm 16 years old and I live in the northeastern united states, and I want to make games. I have a basic understanding of Java programming using Eclipse Indigo, but not much else. If I sat down and had the drive to, I could probably make a text-based game using Java but that isn't entirely what I wanna do; moreover I want to make a platform-style game much like SMB.
I know it's a lot of work and stuff and I know it requires a lot of time that I currently don't have (I am a varsity wrestler and football player so I'm doing athletics all year round) but I figure once I get to college, I'll take some classes on C++ and stuff and I'll have a lot more time on my hands to do what I want.
Until then though, I don't wanna wait 18 more months to begin my coding experience, so I'd like to start learning the basics now. From what I understand, coding is all logic and algebra, which is great because right now I'm taking Pre-calc so I should be set as far as mathematics go. Could I please get some professional-indie help from people who have done it and can guide me in the right direction? It would be greatly appreciated.
