I'll try to get both, but if the NGP really is 999$ I'll pass on that one and just get the 3DS.

Wow! The PSP2 is taking an absolute beating!

I'm honestly quite surprised considering it embodies nearly everything people have been clamoring for in recent years. High resolution screen, dual analog sticks, cartridge-based gaming.

While I do own a DS, most of my favourite games don't even make use of the touchscreen, so that was never a selling point for me. If I do get a 3DSm I will likely turn the 3D effect off since 3D movies make me nauseous.

I'll just have to wait and see what it is like at launch!

The 3ds has a better gaming library we know about.

Quoted and underlined for absolute truth.

I just hope the 3DS launches with a wider selection of games than the DS did.  I remember owning one game for DS for the first year I had it (Super Mario 64 DS...), waiting for Advance Wars: Dual Strike to come out.  After that point there was a huge flood of awesome games, but the first few months of release were kind of lame and I hope Nintendo tries to remedy that.

What I would love more than anything is a handheld with a system similar to the iPod and iPhone when it comes to games; Anyone can make a game and submit it to an easily navigated store, and can be downloaded and played on the device, then rated and reviewed for when other people get it.

If they did this alongside normal retail games, I'd get it. I dunno if I'll get a 3DS considering they screwed me over by announcing the 3DS so soon after releasing the fucking DSi XL.

That is certainly something I could get behind.  Metroid remains one of my favorite franchises.  Its not a frequently used IP, but when they make a Metroid game its always good (except Hunters and Pinball).  Yes, I am 1 of the 20 people in the world who actually like Other M.  Its not the best in the world by any stretch, but it doesn't deserve the hate it gets.  I thought it was at least better than Prime 3.

To be honest, that's one of the main reasons I don't like the 3DS. I'm getting a little tired of Nintendo simply doing rehashes of all their most popular games. For me, the best games on the DS were original ones, like Golden Sun, Professor Layton, and Phoenix Wright. My least favourite are ones such as Super Mario 64, the Star Fox DS game (the controls were really bad), and every other remake imaginable.

Since the GBA did the exact same thing (in fact, to a greater extent having both ported NES and SNES games), I've simply grown weary of Nintendo's lack appealing new titles. The 3DS launch titles sure don't look too appealing on original content.

This is though, they release a mix of games.  New sequels (New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, etc), Revamped Remakes (Pokemon Heartgold, Mario 64 DS [even though it was worse than the original], etc), and Ports (Ocarina of Time for the gamecube, Classic NES series, Virtual Console, etc.)

For the most part the vast majority of their releases are brand new games, but they have such a large library of fantastic games, it would be a crime not to rerelease them for new gamers, old gamers who lost their cartridge or whatever, and people who just missed it the first time.  Also, its a good way for them to keep a steady stream of releases, as they are quick and easy to make while we patiently wait for the sequels that take much longer to make.

Its also worth noting, that it some instances the revamped remakes are so much better than the original, that its like a new game (See Heartgold, or more so, Metroid Zero Mission).

Lastly, I would just like to state that it could be much worse.  I'm pretty sure Square Enix's remake:new game ratio is like 10:1

In conclusion, yes Nintendo makes their fair share of remakes, but that's just because they make their fair share of games in general.

I'm pretty much done buying handhelds for a while.

The DS library is flooded with gimicky touch-screen minigames, and the PSP library is just plain sparse. There's no point in spending a butt-load of money on either of them until they release enough titles that are absolute must-haves. I suspect that will be a couple years.

This.
I think the NGP hardware is awesome. I'd pay $399 IF it dual booted to Android. I like my indie games.
