ITT: Basher of Christianity doesn't understand that there are different branches of Christianity, and that every church (even within the same sect) does things a little differently.

This.

I'm guessing the one he was in was like Lutheran or something... The Lutherans in general tend to be a lot more religion heavy.

Read the post boyo.

I dunno by the way Steveolutionary is talking he makes the assumption all christians are mindless with the same opinions on everything. He said he was raised as one, and often being raised as one turns you away from it.

This.  Same thing happened with me.  I hated church and still do.  I still have a respect for it, and what it can do for the community though.  Yes, the bible may have said some crazy things at certain points, but for the most part I feel like people tend to ignore the out of date material and just take the big picture, which is being a decent human being and helping people out when they're in need.

That said, it pisses me off when people say stuff like "good Christian morals" because good Christian morals are no different than good morals.

Homosexuality Stance
I think it's A-O-K.  I have plenty of friends that are gay, straight, and bi.  I know a few that are pansexual, one that's a straight asexual (I believe that does require two quantifying words), a post-operation transsexual, and a pre-operation transsexual.  I have no problems with their way of life, who they love, and their quest for governmentally recognized union/marriage.

"So long as they don't hit on me"
This is harder to quantify.  Verbal play is OK in all forms.  I've been complimented on various levels, and that's fine.  It's pretty much a compliment made more legitimate by their sexual orientation.  If a guy likes guys and says I'm a hot slice of man meat, then go me!

However...  breaching my personal space is completely different.  All through elementary school I was harassed in various ways that will not be described here.  This has historically made me very cautious of contact with other  males.  Heck, the classic manly chest bump was awkward until I got into college.  So although regular contact (hugs, handshakes, chest bumps, etc) is OK, going further generally elicits a full-body shiver/reaction...

In only one instance is this applicable.  Friend A is gay, Friend B is not.  Friend B is outside smoking, looking in through a window.  Friend A wants to set up an awkward looking situation and strikes a hug + leg lift type sexy pose with me.  That's fine.  He then proceeds to start kissing the side of my face... :-/.  I broke free and took up a fighting stance - nearly swinging at him.  That kind of behavior is an example of the line that should not be crossed.

Marriage
I think that everyone should be able to marry whomever they want.  At the same time, however, religious institutions cannot be forced to wed gay couples.  If it outside their beliefs and gay couples have access to institutionally recognized union elsewhere, then it is infringing upon the rights of that religious establishment to force them to wed a gay couple.  So ya.  Make it readily available without infringing on the beliefs of others.

Religious Stances on Sexual Orientation
I was raised Catholic and now currently have very generic beliefs that are not associated with a religious establishment.  (Generic being that I think the detail of the universe implies organization via a higher power.  Said higher power does not interact with the universe in a measurable manner, so out side this blatantly unfounded assumption, there is no proof of it's existence).

I have not read the Bible, so what follows is purely anecdotal.

In my experience, Christians - and many of their derivative counterparts, will claim two things: they accept the person as a person and that they, to some degree, also recognize that they are a sinner for being homosexual (or any other sexual orientation that's not straight).  This seems personally strange to me, because this degree is sometimes taken to "I accept you, but you're going to Hell for loving that guy".  This often leads to arguments about changing their ways of life.  I've heard things like "I'm only doing this because I think you're a great person, and I'd hate to see you suffer in eternal damnation".

I honestly can't understand this train of thought.  Why can someone be great all around and be eternally damned for something like love of another man?  It's LOVE.  It's not like they're murderers, or rapist, or what have you.  If I were to think of a magnitude of crime that would land someone eternal punishment, loving another person would not be it.

This also seems mismatched with an all-loving, all-forgiving God.  But I can't go too much further with this, since I have no Bible-type background to back anything up.

So that's my 2.5 cents.

I feel bad tl;dr'ing posts that are nicely spaced and organized for my viewing pleasure  Meat Boy

That's all really logical, but I have to wonder why so many people bring up that unwanted gay flirting is not cool with them.  I feel like that the same thing as saying "yeah, girls are cool and all but I hate when some fat chick tries to flirt with me."

Not criticizing anyone, I just simply find it interesting and am curious as to what peoples thought processes are since I feel like unwanted flirting is a subject that can be inflicted by any demographic.

I was talking more about the people who don't like "gay people coming on to them".  Do they see it as a problem or something?  Maybe since it doesn't really bother me I don't notice it as much?  I dunno, it just seems like the same thing could be said about anyone:
"I like girls but not if they're rapists"
"I like old people but not if they touch me inappropriately"
"I like babies but not when they sodomize me"
"I like dogs but not when they hump my leg"
"I like monkeys but not the poop throwing kind"

These examples are more extreme, but I hope I'm getting my point across.  I just found it interesting that people even needed to add conditional modifiers to their acceptance of gay people.

Would it be acceptable if I went into a woman's locker room and showered with them ? I wish. Must be nice to be a gay dude. Unless you count the part where the straight guy catches you peaking and bashes your face into the floor repeatedly.

I'm sure this post will piss people off. It's to be expected. I'm also sure, however, my point will be understood. Spare me your childish anger if you are indeed pissed off after reading this. I do not care.

You also have to ask yourself this. If a straight guy walked in and began showering with women in the women's locker room and the girls beat him to within an inch of his life. Would you find this acceptable ? I'm sure you would. The guy deserved it right ? He invaded the ladies' privacy in a very perverse manner. No one would shed a tear for this guy. I'm sure you get what im trying to say here.

PS. I don't promote the bashing of gay face. It's totally wrong. You should call your congressman instead.

Agreed. All I know is, if it was ok for me to be in a women's shower/bathroom etc, I would be peaking like a mutha  . When it comes to that type of stuff,as a man, I don't have any self control. Of course... if it was a bunch of fatties in there I would probably just throw a grenade and leave.

If you guys have that type of self control though I applaud you. I know I sure don't. I don't mean to generalize either. I just simply cant comprehend it because I cant put myself there mentally.

I have a friend who "came out" a few years back. We all sorta knew though. His relationships with women never worked out. He was real sensitive about certain stuff that we could care less about etc. But me and him are still tight. He totally understands the boundary there. Theres a line he can't cross if he wants to remain my friend. Doesn't mean he doesn't give me shit though and bust my bawlz a lil bit. I'm totally cool with it tho so meh. I guess im a hypocrit. He can say shit to me that a gay person I never met is not allowed to say unless they want to be punched in the face.

In the end, I guess its a trust thing really. Nothing more.

Carnivore - Do you ever visit the gym? I guarentee you will have showered many, many, many times with gay men, and not once have you been raped or seen anyone looking at your junk so saw someone getting an erection.

Some additional points - I'm sure you've caught a glimpse before too. Are you now gay? Do you deserve a bashing? Secondly, maybe they just don't find you attractive, and worthy of a grenade yourself? Also what makes you think you'd win the face bashing contest? No all gay men are effeminate.

If women are literally falling over themselves to jump your bones, then don't expect men to either. If anything, most gay men i've met are waaaaay higher visual standards than most straight women do when it comes to being attracted to man. I'm sure i've been in the shower with many gay men and I just wasn't their type.
