So I've been thinking, I haven't been this obsessed with a game since the Tony Hawk games (1,2,3,4,THUG,THUG 2) and I'm starting to notice some similarities.

Both have pick-up and play controls, easy enough to learn gameplay but hard to master. The level layouts are what makes the game fun, you can create your own levels, fun hidden characters to unlock with different abilities and trying to get all the bandages is like trying to find all the gaps in THPS.

Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way about these 2 games or another set of games?

I don't really see the connection except that they both rock (Tony Hawk 2 anyways, I wasn't a fan of the direction they went after that though).  I sorta understand where you're coming from though.

You also forgot to add that both can jump like 50 feet in the air and neither take fall damage.

I can see the similarities as far as they're both "games", but beyond that I don't see it.

i absolutely get what you mean. not exactly about THPS (although i DID play them excessively and was CRAZY good at one point...) but i know what you mean. for me it's more like goldeneye and perfect dark, where i got all the cheats unlocked and stuff like that..

i definitely haven't geeked out about any other game in the last 5 years more, than super meat boy. i mean, i'm a TOTAL nerd for it.
i live in germany and don't give a crap if shiping costs 10$ for any order i place and i bought the soundtrack with signature from bandcamp, the stuff from the etsy store AND i'm gonna get the shirts from the newgrounds store. i LOVE the stuff and this game is a true gem in my collection.

i choose it over COD, ME2, or L4D any day :)

I actually felt the exact same way about this game and Tony Hawk.  The reason I think they feel similar is the acrobatic combo effect from rushing through the levels on SMB mimics the tricks you would do in THPS at breakneck speed.  Hitting a saw blade or missing a jump breaks the combo and you eat it, just like skateboarding.

To further the point, part of the reason this game was so appealing to me is that it makes you feel like a badass, doing stuff you could never accomplish in real life, kinda like a pro skateboarder.

Mario and Mega Man are tedious in comparison to Meat Boy's ADHD playstyle.

I loved the tony hawk series up until THUG2, that's where shit started getting silly.

I see the similarities, but any game with an in-depth level editor is usually awesome anyway.

yet another truth that i never would have come up with myself, but it's still spot-on!

can't wait for the level editor. i kept away from /devmode!

I love meat boy and I love the tony hawk series (up to underground 1).

I can see the similarities.  The harder goals on tony hawk always require tons of retries and most require button perfection.

yeah, and you know what else? Every PC game needs to be installed.

I LOVE the THPS series up to THUG2.
