I'm having 2 problems at the moment. I just got a wired 360 controller and started using that, but it's acting up with the jump button, sometimes not registering i've hit it, usually when there's lots of jumps close together. As you can imagine this is bad. I read the main tech support post and tried to lower the detail in case it was an instance of lag, but now anytime i start it up, the screen is sideways, like when you hit AltGr + ->/<-. I undid the adjustment to the properties, but it still won't be in the correct orientation. I'll update when I've had a chance to uninstall and reinstall, but controller input issue will probably still be there.

Right, so I managed to fix one of the problems. After reinstalling, and readjusting the settings the picture is in the correct orientation and resolution now, so no worries there. However I'm still having issues with controllers. I've tried a plug 'n' play usb one as well as the official wired 360 controller I bought primarily for this game, and both have jump buttons that are les responsive than the spacebar. Like I said, it doesn't always register jumps, particularly when theres a series of them.

Next time edit your first post instead of double-posting.

Have you tried re-mapping your controller by editing buttonmap.cfg? It's got both keyboard and gamepad configurations in it.

This issues not the button mapping, I have no problem with which button does what, it's the controls just not reading the input sometimes. For example, the hospital set has a level where you have to wall jump up the laser shaft at the start, and sometimes after 2/3 walljumps, he stops listening for a second or two no matter how much i hammer at A. It's very intermittent. Is this a common issue or just me?

Well since the problem is only occuring with one input, that's why I suggested re-mapping. It might be the button you're using to jump that isn't responding. It wouldn't hurt to try, would it?

And if that doesn't help, run the game windowed and see if that makes a difference. It probably won't, but what do you have to lose?
