Hi, I want to play the levels for a better time, but almost every time, after completing a stage and while the time is uploading to the leaderboards or while I want to look at them, the whole game crashes. It happens not alwasy. Sometime I can play 10 or 20 stages without anything happening, but sometime it happens almost every time. And it seems I am not the only one with this problem: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1710677

I've answered this one a few times. Odds are, you're on vista or windows 7. Try setting the exe to windows xp sp 3 compatibility mode and you should be fine. This crash will happen during any load, not just leaderboards. Gets quite annoying when trying to repeatedly beat a level for a better time.

I use XP3 and I had this same exact thing until the update like a week back? I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but I am not crashing AT ALL now.

How exactly do I go about doing this? What do I type in the properties bar?

How exactly do I go about doing this? What do I type in the properties bar? Find the .exe in your steam folder for the game itself (not the desktop or start menu shortcut since they link to steamid) and right-click > properties. There's a tab called "compatibility", click it. Check the run this program in compatibility mode for... and select windows xp sp 3. Apply and you're good to go. If you cannot find the exe (since steam has a shitload of folders) it will be located in Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\super meat boy\

I'm running Vista, but why do I only have XP SP 2 compatibility mode available? I tried that mode, but it didn't remove the crashing problem.

That worked phenomenally for me roboticaust, thank you so much! No problem. I had to figure that out myself when I encountered the problem a patch or two ago. Tommy said it was probably my catalyst drivers but I had the current driver. Then he said he didn't know what the problem was, so I explored a solution and found that fixed it beautifully for me and has worked for dozens of others. As for the Vista reply, I completely avoided this OS and went straight to Win 7 64bit when it released. I figured they patched in sp 3 for vista after they released that service pack aeons ago, but I guess they either didn't or you lack that update. I'm not a Vista expert sh00takai, so don't slip a noose around my neck or anything . But seriously, I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help to you. Annoying bug is annoying.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. I need to check out if there's an update for that compatibility mode.

I was just searching myself in an attempt to be your savior. Figured they put it on Vista sp2 but was wrong. So basically Microsoft was too lazy to do an update, it's a win7 only feature. Sucks, I know. This weird bug didn't pop up til an update or two ago. Kinda curious what is causing it and why. It was just dumb luck that I found a win7 fix for it.

Damn, I think this issue is becoming yet another minor reason to completely abandon Vista (this OS was pre-installed to this laptop, wouldn't have installed it if I had the choice). Oh well, I can live with this situation for now as the game doesn't always crash. Sometimes I can play the whole session without crashes despite I browse the leaderboards almost every minute. I hope Team Meat releases some miraculous fixes that repair everything some day.

@ roboticaust: Thanks =) This crash will happen during any load, not just leaderboards.
But these crashes happened since two or three weeks, when I began to try to get better times on some stages, which is pretty strange. I bought Super Meat Boy in December and never had any crash while playing the game "normal" or something was loading.

Yeah, I didn't start noticing it until I started spamming level clears as well as leaderboards. Once the problem popped up, it was persistent. Had it crash a few times while changing characters, loading chapters, switching to dark world, opening leaderboards, scrolling through leaderboards... basically anything that essentially loaded something within the game caused it. Gave me a headache to say the least. Was crashing every 15 minutes on average until I made that compatibility change and now I don't crash at all.

Thanks, this worked for me as well. The game would crash during certain leaderboard scores, finishing a level with a bandage, and unlocking a character. I didn't start happening until the latest patch. Works like a charm. I'm even able to view some leaderboard scores that always crashed when I tried to view them.

Was crashing every 15 minutes on average In my case, sometimes it crashed every minute, so I had to restart the game quite often^^. I didn't start happening until the latest patch.
Yeah, around that time my game started to crash that often too...
