I know, I KNOW! Don't rape me with your replies after reading this just hear me out!

I've read numerous articles and the blog about how theres going to be not a second meatboy, but how can you two developers who made such a great game say "Well the second one isn't going to be as good as this one, so we should make something else"?

I'm not asking you guys to make a sequel so you guys can cash in, but because this is the best platformer I've played since I was kid! Being an xbox user, yes xbox, I know I can't create levels and can play all your fun "teh internets" uploaded levels, but I still won't be able to do all the custom fun creation you intended for your users to be busy with (FOREVER) until the MB community dies.

There are so many ways you guys can improve this game, this game is NO WHERE near perfect like you guys are praising you made something that can't be beat.

1. Multiplayer (Ya, I said it)
-- Great platformers have multiplayer. I'm not asking for a crazy beat em up smash bro matchmaking bullcrap, but just multiplayer such as RACE (self explanatory).

2. More worlds (Ya, I SAID IT)
-- Okay, I understand (LEVEL CREATOR AND TEH INTERNETS WILL GIVE ENDLESS FUNNNNN (no))
The level editor and creator will only have so much customization, and so it will get repetitive, dodging the same hell dude or rocket launcher. MORE LEVELS + MORE BADGUYS = BETTER MEATBOY SEQUEL

....I can keep numbering off things that you guys could do, but HONESTLY look at yourselves in the mirror and DON'T CREATE SOME NEW AWFUL GAME (I'm sure it will be great). MAKE SUPER MEAT BOY 2. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

"We did it right the first time!" ------>  (THIS IS MY FAVORITE GAME, I'M JUST SAYING ITS A STUPID THING TO SAY)

You're basically screaming for a sequel whilst Team Meat isn't even done implementing more stuff in SMB. Besides, this game is only a few months old. Give them a break.

While I do think that you should "never say never", I took what they said as "Don't expect a sequel." They're still creating new levels, just in the same game.

Also,

I'm not screaming that they should start making a sequel RIGHT NOW, but rather that they should make a sequel whenever (just don't abandon whats become so great).

No.

It was worth a shot.

*cough* Thats what the level editor is for, said Team Meat :L Also multiplayer can be done in the wrong way or in the right way. So really, you're not asking for much.

I agree theres so much more they could do for this game. just think about it for a moment there is so much stuff they could expand on.
- they could make an ice world, a world that has some slippery ground.
- they could make a water world. for this there would have to be new swimming(in water) physics
- they could make a stomach world (maybe someone eats meat boy, you never know), that has bouncy floors.
- hell maybe meat boy could go to the moon, where he could jump higher.

all of the stuff listed above you can't do in the editor (i think), so it would make sence for team meat to make a second game with more gameplay mechanics. i under stand they can probly just add stuff to the editor after a while, but i would prefer a new game if they come up with a bunch of great new ideas (which i'm sure they will).

I really wouldn't mind if there wasn't a Super Meat Boy 2, because im happy with the game i have now and im sure what ever team meat does next will be great but theres definitely enough stuff for team meat to expand on super Meat Boy to justify a second game.

Also on that note like tD Watson said they could add more badguys(Hazards). these hazards could be so new and different on there own that they themselves would justify a second game.

im a huge fan of Super Meat Boy and team Meat so whatever the future brings im sure i'll enjoy it so wheather or not smb 2 gets made wont keep me up at night   . All i'm saying is that i think there is a good possibility of it happening.

But what can be added to this game to explain need for creating sequel? New obstacles? Multiplayer? New unlockable characters? New levels/worlds? 3D? (omg please, NEVER try to make 3D super meat boy, it would destroy this game, like Worms serie for example)

SMB is unique, don't change that.

Multiplayer:
Unless done just right, it will be a complete disaster. Remember that Super Meat Boy is a game where you die frequently and the stage restarts, throwing more people into the stages will not work unless they are specially designed for co-operative play (see Portal 2 as example) or if the game were made to be much more forgiving with respawn not affecting other players (not going to happen as it'd require limitations on level design, and that's not fun).

At this point, the only thing that can be done for a "sequel" is addition of more mechanics to toy with for level designers. Sure, the story hasn't progressed, but the story is already an excuse plot. The game focuses on gameplay.

Just look around the forum at the custom levels that have already been made, some creative ideas have already sprung up and I am 100% certain that some tricks have not yet been used to their full potential, even Edmund himself stated that he didn't get to try out some of the mechanics that are possible with the game engine to their full potential, only briefly touching upon them (moving fans, for instance).

I'd rather have the source code tbh.

I don't think Maruhai read my topic. And multiplayer CAN be done...it's not like this game has huge limitations and was made on windows 95.

True, true, coding new elements or characters or whatever would be cool.

No I don't, too many fail for my poor eyes.

Yes it can, now tell me, what's the point of multiplayer ?

The level portal, assuming the gold nuggets are sifted out, WILL be SMB2.

Multiplayer was initially coded but was boring as fucking hell.  Seriously, stop asking for it... it sucks.  As for the source code, the only thing I would add would be dark world bosses, a finalized ghosting feature and rework the way dark world opens/how game percent is added up.  The current character rooster is FINE.  I don't give a shit about the differences between 360 and pc as far as characters are concerned since both games have DIFFERENT leaderboards.  It's not like Tim times are going to effect the pc version, so this debate needs to end as well.

Little known fact, xbox 360 allows content up to 2gbs in size.  The game currently takes up about 15% of that quota.  It's more than possible to push the music up to 320kbs and add a few small fixes without breaking the limitations any.

I currently share the same viewpoint as team meat as far as a sequel goes... there's no fucking point in it.  The current engine and game can be expanded upon whenever they choose to do so, if they choose to do so.  They are even giving us the ability to add levels to the current status of the engine.  If they did make a sequel, it would be the same game with a few new tilesets and cutscenes .  Nooooo thank you!  I don't mind the idea of new tilesets and additional obstacles added every now and again, but that does require a lot of work to do and Edmund has already said he doesn't feel the need to do so.  Now can we let this rest?
