please remain civil because i agree with you and your going to make us look bad if you continue to name call.

lmao you think this thread is going to have any affect on wether or not there's a sequel? Give me a break kid, there isn't going to be a SMB2 and there never will be
No i do not think this thread is going to effect whether there's a sequel or not but to me it seems not alot of people on this forum think there should be one, so when someone who shares my opinion starts attacking people, calling them names, it makes OUR side of this issue seem immature.

Multiplayer:
Unless done just right, it will be a complete disaster. Remember that Super Meat Boy is a game where you die frequently and the stage restarts, throwing more people into the stages will not work unless they are specially designed for co-operative play (see Portal 2 as example) or if the game were made to be much more forgiving with respawn not affecting other players (not going to happen as it'd require limitations on level design, and that's not fun).

At this point, the only thing that can be done for a "sequel" is addition of more mechanics to toy with for level designers. Sure, the story hasn't progressed, but the story is already an excuse plot. The game focuses on gameplay.

Just look around the forum at the custom levels that have already been made, some creative ideas have already sprung up and I am 100% certain that some tricks have not yet been used to their full potential, even Edmund himself stated that he didn't get to try out some of the mechanics that are possible with the game engine to their full potential, only briefly touching upon them (moving fans, for instance).
Don't mind me, just an indie game developer making sure his reasoning is known. It's not like I know anything about game development or anything...

Am I supposed to put something important here?

Honestly, I don't think there needs to be a sequel. The game is awesome as is.
However, there are some things I would like in the editor, if they aren't already there.

1. Retro versions of every obstacle seen in game, including those that don't appear in warp zones. (Example: Zombies, Demons, Radioactive Rapture goo, etc.)

2. The ability to put stuff into tile sets that weren't there originally. (Keys in the forest, moving platforms in the hospital, flying zombie munchers in the factory, etc.)

3. (Most Important) The ability to set it up so that a level can not be played until other levels have been beaten/A+'d, or a certain number of bandages of been collected. Also, making dark world levels. (Like, in a set chapter, so it's more like a chapter from the real game.)

And, as cool as it would be to have the bosses in the level editor, I'd honestly prefer if they weren't there. That way, people have to use their creativity to come up with boss-esque levels. (Can you make something that isn't a race?)

I don't know if these are already there, or can't be done. If there's a spot where I can find out, please tell. Again, we don't need a sequel, the editor has plenty. I hope.

Alright, I figured out how to make a signature! Aren't you all proud of me?
You aren't? That's not very nice!
Hmmph. You're all just jealous, because my signature is so cool! Yeah. Jealous.

So first you defend the *cough*sequel*cough* and then you don't care? Honestly, you gave up on your trolling.

They should just improve this game with a few updates and then move on to something else great.

Really, it just needs two things to become everything OP asked for:

1. Full modding capability.
2. Stability/code efficiency.

Making a sequel would be kind of silly, since this engine is wonderful other than the bugs, and since the content should be fairly endless once the portal is out.

1. Multiplayer (Ya, I said it)
-- Great platformers have multiplayer. I'm not asking for a crazy beat em up smash bro matchmaking bullcrap, but just multiplayer such as RACE (self explanatory).

2. More worlds (Ya, I SAID IT)
-- Okay, I understand (LEVEL CREATOR AND TEH INTERNETS WILL GIVE ENDLESS FUNNNNN (no))
The level editor and creator will only have so much customization, and so it will get repetitive, dodging the same hell dude or rocket launcher. MORE LEVELS + MORE BADGUYS = BETTER MEATBOY SEQUEL

1) Leaderboards.

2) There's plenty of variety in there that we will have SO MUCH TO WORK WITH. Buzzsaws, pits, lava, salt, needles, fans, gravity things, rockets, those black seeking things, breakable panels, the list goes on.
What we have seen in the game is these used to minimal effect. Think about combinations of these things.

We don't need a sequel.

Super Meat Boy, once they get the level editor out, is going to be like Little Big Planet as far as user-made content goes, in that it should be approximately limitless.  LBP really didn't need a sequel (the new one is essentially the same game, imo) because of the sheer amounts of content it has for players, and SMB should be the same way.

However, I would love a quote-unquote "spiritual successor" to SMB, perhaps another hardcore platformer type game that uses a completely different physics system and offers different challenges.  Like many people have said, a SMB sequel would just be the same game with new material, and I'd like a different experience from Team Meat's new game.

Odds are, the next game will be a casual game.  They want a break from platformers for awhile after making this game and winning plenty of recognition in the process.  I don't blame them for wanting to try their hands at a variety of things since they clearly are in a position to do so.

That makes sense.  I'm in no hurry for a new Team Meat platformer anyways-- I've just gotten started with this one!

Heh, good.  I'm hoping to have mine done within a year or two time anyhow   Have a good portion of the engine started and all my ideas planned out, broken down into bite sized chunks and sorted.  Just need to find me a graphic artist when I start to get closer to prototyping and testing.
