I know that the PC leaderboards have plenty of issues, but I'm having a problem simply updating my fastest times to the leaderboard after several runthroughs of a level.  Sometimes when I improve on my times in any given level it will update the fastest runthrough on the map display but it won't update it on the leaderboard, so I can't tell how much I've improved my time by.  It's very frustrating for someone who wants to take advantage of this feature.  Has anybody else had this problem and knows a workaround of some sort?

I've encountered this on a few levels. The record on them is somehow messed up and no matter how many times I get a new record, the time won't upload to the leaderboards even if I restart the whole game between the runs. The local record time gets better and better on these levels, but they just don't overwrite the obsolete leaderboard record. Frustrating, indeed.

I feel your pain, man.     Hopefully this can be fixed in an upcoming patch?  It's wishful thinking, but I was really looking forward to improving my overall times, and this kind of complicates that a lot.

Yeah, I really like to improve my times too and compare them to others. I hope these issues get a solid fix at some point... I've also got some totally random times on some levels. For example, I've got a local time of 5.80 at 7-3x, but look at the leaderboards:

I pointed this out to Edmund and Tommy ages ago.  The problem has to do with how fast you are clearing the level over and over.  It has something to do with steam and not the game.  You're essentially spamming data over to steam and it decides to be picky and choosy with what it takes.  Since the game is programmed to submit best times (as meatboy regardless if he was the character you use which is why the leaderboards are flooded with times meatboy couldn't possibly get), it essentially will send this data as your best if you go back at a later time and do the round again... even if the time was way worse.  To avoid the problem, intentionally kill yourself on bad runs instead of finishing the level, or use the pseudo-restart by pausing > character select and picking the current character you are trying the round with.

I realize this is annoying, but if you're going to speed run for better times, you need to be aware of the issue and work around it or suffer the dreaded meat boy submit later on when it decides to accept submissions again.  A good rule of thumb is to only clear a level once a minute.  So if you're playing a level with a 40 second par you can do in 30 seconds with a few deaths involved, you're really not going to run into this issue.  But if you are trying to spam clear something in a forest level, you're going to run into this a lot.  Try only touching her when you're sure you've got a good time and chilling out for a few seconds before attempting again.

@roboticaust: Yeah, I've noticed that helps. I've read tons of cases about the issue, so I should've explained my situation a bit better. But... Sometimes that upload problem tends to happen even if I'm playing with a slow pace, but all these moments do have one thing in common: I've replayed the level and improved the time over and over again without exiting to world map. The only way I totally avoid the problem is by waiting until the save icon disappears during the replay screen and exiting to chapter map straight after that.

Oh, and to LordSturm, don't worry about the total time. It's calculated from you local records, so it should be accurate even if the level-specific leaderboard records can be a mess.

Ok, thanks for the responses guys.  That's really good information to keep in mind.  Appreciate it!

EDIT:  I tried replaying the levels that I had the issue with this morning and that was enough to reset my leaderboard scores, so just trying the levels again after a few hours seems to fix it right up.

That's because every clear submits the current best time.  This causes steam to bottleneck if you are spam clearing a stage despite what times you get, but can cause your times to correct themselves if not done while it's freaking out (well sorta since it sends as meat boy regardless of who you used).  I think a better fix would be to disable this and put in an option to send in your current bests since different levels don't seem to trigger this headache at all.

Cool. Good the times can be fixed that way.

I hope I'm not becoming a burden, but I'd like to ask about my current issue. I'm having a problem getting warp zone times on the overall record. Whenever I clear a warp zone relatively fast without dying to get that -15 seconds to the overall time, it reverts back to the original time after I play for a while / restart the game. It happened twice in the same way: I played all warp zones of one chapter. The overall time was ok and updated until I proceeded to next chapter and entered the first warp there. At that point, even before completing the warp, I lost all the warp zone times from the previous chapter.

Has there been any discussion about that and what can I do? I've missed all possible threads regarding that.

Yeah, me and supertofuboy explored this about 2 weeks after release and had weird results to say the least.  The times seem to work like switches.  One clear will flip it one way, another clear will flip it the other.  So say a warp zone shaves off exactly 3 seconds from your time.  If you do it again regardless of time spent, it will flip back up that 3 seconds.  Some of these switches do indeed share in differing warps.  At best, you might be able to take a few seconds off your total time if you figure out the full pattern, but why put in all the effort for a few seconds when you can just play the game?

It really doesn't work that way anymore.  Every non-character warp zone completed subtracts 15 seconds from your global time.  You can speed-run the Commander Video and Flywrench levels for another ~7 seconds combined.  The bonus time lasts until you improve a level (or complete a warp zone) after restarting the game--though there might be other mechanisms for removing the bonus time that I don't know about.

I've tested this several times now and I can consistently lower and then raise my time by ~230 seconds using this method.  It works on both XBLA and Steam--the difference is that while Steam subtracts the bonus time as soon as the warp zone is completed, XBLA waits until you've improved a time on a regular level before factoring the warp zone bonus in.

It's still pretty useless though.  In order to keep your time low, you would have to replay nearly all of the warp zones every time you start the game.

I'm not sure whether it's meant to be this way or is just a glitch--before the recent update, XBLA used to keep the bonus time factored in when the game was restarted.

Anyway, you should test it out--it's actually kind of fun to play around with.
