What other video games can you guys think of that have alternate versions of the world that you live in?

Eversion - Nuff Said.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - In this playstation game there are two 'worlds' that coincide with each other but have slight differences in terrain - the material plane but also the spectral plane, inhabited by different baddies, and time is frozen there (e.g. crates dropped will hover in mid air).

when I read the title of the topic I thought of this one. Too bad you said it first :P

Otherwise, I cant really remember of other games with that kinda mechanic.

Metroid Prime: 2 did this really well, as did the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, although that's technically not a dark world, per se.  But I would say ALttP pioneered the concept of dark worlds in video games and these two games really elaborated on it.
