It won't happen. Nintendo doesn't want their first-party characters in a third-party game.

Read: Do not ask for Link or Kirby or Pikachu too.

nevermind nintendo. edmund and tommy would probably opt for lesser known indie characters anyways.
i'm hoping for the archaeologist from la-mulana as a playable character. the wii version could also include commander video and goo.

Nintendo is the most sue-happy company I have seen in recent years. Anything, even fan related that doesn't make a profit, they sue into oblivion. Remember that Zelda movie? Not many people do because it was taken down in a matter of a day I would love Nintendo if they didn't treat their fans like dirt. Just to add: I doubt Nintendo would ever go for it. They don't want to taint their characters and make them "impure".

La Mulana and Cave Story are also forbidden. Both developers refused.

That's not true, Mario has been in games like that NBA streetz game, ssx3, and a cameo in banjo's nuts n bolts on 360 ..But I dunno about Meat Boy, mesh Mario in a game with a fetus in it. The demograph would be ruined!

Yea I don't really see a "E" rated game character (atleast Mario and most other Nintendo Characters) being put in a game that would most likely be a M rated game. As much as I like Mario I don't want to see him in this game. It just doesn't mesh well with this games vibe.

Super Meat Boy is already rated T I get what you're saying though. I'd rather have indie characters though. If I could replace Headcrab with Goo Ball for good I'd do it in a heart beat.

Didn't even know they already rated it. I guess I just assumed it would be rated M because of the blood and the ways you die and splat everywhere. I also agree. I wanted goo ball too. Not really to fond of the headcrab even though I love half-life.

I still don't get why the makers of that Zelda movie didn't ask permission, notify, or just disclaim similarities.

I have no idea why anyone would want Mario in this, and why anyone is surprised Nintendo would refuse.
There is no benefit to them at all, but plenty of risk in showing their irreplacable family mascot's identity being compromised by showing him being ripped to shreds on saws, not to mention battling an evil fetus. He doesn't fit style-wise, and it's a no-brainer why he wouldn't be put in.
It isn't Nintendo "treating their fans like shit" as someone above posted. Like it or not, but their fanbase is, and always has been, mainly families, NOT hardcore gamers. Why people fail to realise this and continue to throw entitlement based tantrums when ever Nintendo predictably follow the same path they always have and will do.
I've been playing games for 25 years and have owned every Nintendo system, and can say with all authority there is very little difference in how they do business now as they ever have in the past.
Also being sue-happy does not make them bad either. Copyright law forces you to agressively protect your trademarks or be in danger of losing them, and the Zedla filmakers were NOT "fans", they were effectively a bunch of upcoming filmmakers who wanted to advertise their skills, and illegally used Nintendo's intellectual property in order to do so as that would garner far more press attention that some random film. It's an expensive job application effectively.
This happens all the time, and is usally the number one motivation behind "fan" films. How many average fans do you know with advanced special effects experience and a $100,000 budget? If it was a true fan film (no-budget, shot in the loacl woods on a camcorder) I doubt Nintendo would have done a thing.

Pretty much this. What could Mario possibly do anyways? Meat Boy is basically Mario only more so (or they say that's how they designed his movements).
