Just realised you also requested a chapter title. How about Nesoteric? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esoteric

Wow, nice suggestion there. I'll keep a list of the suggestions and alternatives I come up with until the chapter is in a certain point and finally decide then.

I think that the last level of the chapter should be something Mario related, like the last level, everyone knows the ending.

That's actually a very good point. The Metroid level I've been planning for a finale will be nothing but torture so it won't probably leave a very satisfied feeling. I think I'll remove an earlier level from the list and replace it with, say, the last level of SMB 3.

UPDATE!

Kid Icarus and Duck Tales levels can be now downloaded and there is also a video for the Duck Tales level available. I didn't get the bandage in that video though, it's pretty painful to get.

I actually disagree with this one. Firstly because everyone will be doing Mario levels, but also because the iconic nature of the 8-bit Mario games has never been the endings.

Metroid however, from the boss battle to the timed escape to the reveal of Samus as a girl is one of the most memorable finales ever.

Hmm. Metroid has that huge climax in the end, I agree... But, I still want to remake SMB 3 after thinking about it for a while. I want to make a scene where Meat Boy runs to the final pitch black room to get bandage girl.

I'll replace the originally planned airship level with Bowser's Castle (I think -6 glitch area in the main game is probably based on some SMB 3 airship level already) and I'll make it 15. level in the chapter. It will not be the last, but it will be there, and the ultimate challenges can start after that. I did already have an insane plan for Metroid and it kinda feels stupid to leave it 19th at this point after all.

I was actually thinking about remaking the first two levels visually before the pack is complete. The first two were my second and third level ever and I was unaware about a couple of visual tricks until now.

Some of these levels seem to blow my keybord-control playing balls off

If you're going to make an epic tribute chapter, please make it so the player leaves thinking "what a cool stroll down memory lane" instead of "those lvls make me feel like i'm playing nes games like Contra.... Wait..."

What about "The Galaxy is in Pieces" for the Metroid one?  Its a play off of the opening of Super Metroid "The last Metroid is in captivity, the galaxy is at peace".  That or "Justin Bailey", or something like that.

Yeah, I guess they can be pretty painful with keyboard, but to be honest, I don't remember NES games ever being easy. They demanded a lot of repetition just like SMB demands now. I think these levels aren't even that hard yet. Making easy levels from games like Ninja Gaiden and Battletoads would only ruin the attempt to give NES games the respect and NES gamers the challenge they deserve.

Have you considered purchasing a gamepad? That could make things a lot easier.

Very good suggestions, but I'll stick with Trenbolone for now. The only problem with The Galaxy is in Pieces is that it's length may be too long. Justin Bailey would be a very good name, but I didn't know it's purpose until I googled it and I think many others would also have problems connecting it to the game. I didn't use that kinda codes in Metroid back then!

I would love to see a Ghosts & Goblins level. That has always been one of my favorite NES games. Either way, this is looking amazing so far. Keep up the good work!

Hey, people. I need your opinions. The first two levels in the pack look very stripped and cold and I'm strongly leaning towards replacing them with completely different levels. I think they served as good test levels, but they are not worth including into the finalized chapter unless completely remade. The Kid Icarus stage is too limited and the part from Duck Tales is not exactly memorable and is very hard to notice for it's different colors and extra textures.

So, I initially thought to replace them with levels from Ice Climber and Faxanadu, but you're free to suggest better ones. I'd love to have at least Faxanadu in the mix!

EDIT: Ghosts 'n Goblins suggested by McJones also feels like a very good choice.

I agree that maybe Duck Tales isn't immediately memorable, but I think Kid Icarus is worth keeping, but maybe given an overhaul if you're unhappy with it. The layout is quite recognisable.

The Zelda one is very good as is IMO. As for Metroid names, I think Justin Bailey is more recognisable than Trebolone, but is just a basic reference rather than a darkly funny one which Super Meat Boy is known for. If you can recognise the game purely from the level design, I think the humour in the name then comes from working out the cryptic name connection via Google or Wikipedia - like the main game's Donkey Knong levels being called "Weibe" and "Billy Boy", something unfamiliar to most unless you've seen "King of Kong"

If it's something unlikely to be recalled visually like Rad Gravity, then I feel the name needs to be less obscure and more direct.

I agree with you on the level names. I also agree that the Kid Icarus stage is recognisable, but it needs to be made a bit longer and visually a bit more satisfying.

And yeah, Duck Tales is pretty much obsolete in my opinion. The level is quite fun to speedrun but it doesn't have enough hints about the original game and it is visually downright depressing. I'm currently planning to replace it with Faxanadu and create a level based on the outskirts of the first town.
