I was wondering what other people use for there PC
Considering I'm 13 I think I have a pretty good one...

A Aspire 4741G
4GB RAM
1GB NVIDIA Graphics Card
14" HD screen
i5 prosseser
640GB Harddrive

I plug in my 23" touchscreen HD Screen Through the HDMI port on my laptop...

I run Portal (and super meat boy) top graphics available, NO lag

I paid for all of this

What about all of you?

I have a pretty humble system. Humble yet effective.

Custom PC (Big massive black box. Dont remember the name. Size matters. 6 fans)
Intel Core2Duo (no overclocking)
4 gig of ram (3.2 cuz fkn 32bit xp is lame)
Nvidia 260 GTX
I have 2 TB HD's but only use 1 so far.

I have all this hooked to my 52 inch HD LCD TV. Surround sound n chit.

Media center PC basically. Just got sick of having a "Computer Area". With today's technology there really no reason for it. Hook the PC to ur TV and have it all in one area. You'll enjoy it more im certain.

I paid for all this. Really didnt cost much at all(except the TV of course  )

There was a hell of a deal on all the parts I purchased for the PC and I got the surround system at the pawn shop for cheap.

The greatest thing is... It runs almost everything at 90-100 percent and seems VERY compatible. Just luck I think. I never ran into any problems with SMB like others did (Except the alt tab stuff)

PS. Since you mentioned Portal.. Are you as psyched as me about the soon to be released Portal 2 ? It will be the only game released in the last 2 years that I MAY consider better than Super Meat Boy. I may take the day off work when it is released LOL .

I gave up on PC gaming quite a few years back now, just couldn't afford to keep upgrading components every 2 years.

So now I've got a basic level Macbook (inb4applesux), and an X-Box hooked up to a basic surround sound system and one of my old 17 inch monitors. Planning to upgrade the screen to some kind of HD display, around 30 inches or so.

Yea I completely understand. Consoles are basically lil media centers now anyway so...

I however prefer the functionality of a PC. I'm a PC nerd at heart what can I say.

But dude you might be surprised. Costs of decent PC hardware are dropping. The specs I listed wouldn't cost much at all (- the TV).

Oh noz. I'd die without some form of personal computer. I don't even do the whole Facebook/MySpace thing either. I assume that if I did I'd prolly just stab myself in the temple  .

Acer Aspire 5738Z
4GB RAM
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
250 GB HDD + 2 TB external HDD
Pentium dual-core processor, 2.00GHz
15.6'' monitor, currently hooked up to a 23'' monitor
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

The computer itself was about $600 and the 2TB HDD and the monitor cost about $200 each. I got the upgrade to Windows 7 free through a promotion with Acer though, woot. I do plan on getting an actual gaming computer once I can get the money (should be with my next few paychecks!).

By the way, clap2times, you're 13 and could afford that kind of setup? Where are you getting money like that at 13!?

Ouch... I dunno, my laptop has been rather loyal to me since I bought it about 2 years ago. It's never had any real hardware problems aside from my CD tray being a bit noisy while it's running, and I've never had to do any kind of system restore or load a backup either.

I run SMB on my trusty Dell Studio XPS laptop.  It's not the most hardcore gaming laptop that's available but most games I've played on here run silky smooth, including new releases.  I got the laptop almost two years ago with the intent of being able to run Starcraft 2 on it (which it does, and very well I might add), so that's the kind of power you should keep in mind.

The specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40 GHz (rated at 4.08 GHz)
4.0 GB RAM, 520 GB HD
64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium (came with Vista, but I upgraded it recently  )
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670
16" LCD screen

It's a pretty awesome setup.  I'm very happy with it.

I know, and I'd probably still be really surprised with what my budget could get now; but it disheartens me to know that I wouldn't be getting the best possible experience with a mid-range set up, and that even if I did invest in a good one, it wouldn't last.

Plus, as much as I loved tinkering and messing with my PC, I really just want to play a game, and consoles are the fastest and easiest way to do that for me.
When I'm not working as much and I've got a bit of money to sling around, I might re-invest. Or probably just when Diablo 3 drops, if they eventually decide against releasing it for consoles.
