It's funny though when you realize Valve haven't really released an "original" idea since the Half Life series. :P

Better this way than releasing a pile of shit like other publishers do.

I dunno.  I'd rather to see someone with an imagination have a couple flops than a guy who just recycles ideas from his fans.  Take Nintendo for example: they've made some bad games in the past (Wii Music, Play, Sports, Fit, etc.) but they also made Chibi Robo, which was a totally unique, and interesting game.  If they only released Mario games and games based off of fan made Mario Mods none of their classics would exist.

As gamers its our job to recognize shit and avoid it.

Yep.

Even EA and Activision brought some ever-classics...but I think the Time is coming to an end, because the big companys only make new titles of big selling franchises, and only focus on that (Especially Activision).

Which is where indie gaming comes in.  And when I'm being totally honest with myself I like new IPs and all, but I'll keep on buying the tried and true franchises from my youth until they dry up (see: Sonic, Worms, Tony Hawk, Spyro).  Sure, new games are a refreshing breath of fresh air, but I also love the classics.

Yep, even I will buy Tomb Raider 'til it's gone. Was my first action title and will always be my favorite.

They still produce Spyro Titles? oO

The new Worms Titles were great, the classic style had to come back (liked the 3D version, too though)

For me, Valve was almost perfect, but the release of L4D2 was just for money and the new direction of TF2 made me stop playing it. Well, and all that shit of "Buy Portal 2 in gamestop and get a Skin!" or "Buy this new gamepad and get 3 new levels!" And don't forget that damn Episode 3.

But yes, I like how they work on their games. They are amazing.

Portal was kinda original, Valve hired the guys that made narbacular drop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narbacular_Drop) which had the idea of portals and then they made it.

And there are quite some FPS puzzle games, tho most of them mix a few other genres into the mix. For example Penumbra.

I do agree that L4D2 was released way too fast after L4D and that TF2 has become a big money business for Valve, but you cannot deny the fact those games still get updated on a weekly basis, gets content added from time to time and that DLC for Valve games is still free, unlike other companies. (*cough* $15 for a few maps *cough*)

For me, it looks better 15€ for a few maps that the crate system, the new items not related a 1968 war-theme, and a lot of weapons with crappy gameplay and not new user friendly.

Also, the free DLC for L4D1/2 are ok, but they aren't so amazing.

Valve only makes FPS games

Alien Swarm and DotA2.

You named 2 games.  1 they gave away for free since they didn't think it was worth charging for and the other isn't out yet.  They still make FPS games with few exceptions.

You were still wrong in your original statement ;)

Yeah, if you want to get all technical and shit.  Or you can see that 2 exceptions out of a 20+ game library is not exactly a great argument if you're being realistic

3 if you count Portal, 4 if you count Portal 2. They aren't FPS, but First Person Puzzle Games, which are different in gameplay.

Yeah, I guess I should of been clearer; Valve release original games, but they are reworkings of other people's ideas. They hire modders and the like, then adapt their ideas into a full retail game.
The only game that was created from base in Valve was the Half Life series.

and why did they choose those people who made the game? BECAUSE THE CONCEPT WAS ORIGINAL

at least the people who mad the game came up with the idea, they took a original conept and turned into a excellent game

Overall: Valve might not have come up with the idea, but the people they hired did

STILL one of the most original games I've ever played

Edit:
Also, sorry Zombie_Plan, didn't see your post above mine  when making this post...

Looking back on this post, I guess I kind of over reacted

Except you use a portal gun.  You shoot portals.  Turrets shoot you.  Its not a First Person Puzzle game, its a First Person Puzzle Shooter, which is what makes it so unique.

Besides, arguing technicalities isn't going to make me love Valve all of the sudden, since no matter what logical loops you try to spin 90+% of their library are still FPS games that I find no pleasure in.
