I don't mind it going free, but why do I get a stupid hat for the fact that I once paid for it?
All other pay2play benefits don't really do anything for me at all. I care not for crafting or trading, I just want to team up and push minecarts.
Give me a €15 Steam coupon, because that's what I paid for it originally.

Free accounts only have 50 backpack slots, standard blueprints (no specific weapon crafting nor hats), only weapons drops and can't tarde nor gift.

Could care less if TF2 was free, I've had tons of fun with that game and dont plan on stopping anytime soon, same with almost all of valves games

I don't get why is everyone whining about "omg TF2 is free it's shit".

I have the same feeling about this idea that I have about the whole Hat Fortress 2 thing.
Let me explain what I mean.

You see, I bought TF2 not so long ago, and thus, i've heard a lot about that whole "TF2 is only a trade game" and Mann Co things, and I was worried a bit about if TF2 was really fun.

I still bought it and oh my god you can't even imagine how much I would have hated myself if I didn't.
This game is like the most fun you can have in a nutshell, and I'm not joking, I can't stop playing this game, if you ignore the trades and choose a good server (with no trades, if possible) you're gonna play for at least 1 hour straight.

Now back to this Free To Play thing, same here, everybody is saying "omg noob and hackers invasion valve is shit gay fuck you I'm out of here brb playing Pong" but in reality, if you don't want to play with "noobs" (a high part of the free players are better than you think), just play on premium only servers, only people that are smart enough to take a credit card and buy a thing with it will be able to play with you, and before this update, we still had some stupid 12 years old, so it'll just add a bit more and won't affect the community of your generic server at all, and if it does, you can still take another one. I am myself playing on ~4 serious servers only (my other favorites are Saxton, Mario Kart or Degroot Keep only [I fucking love this map]) and I won't lie to you, it's more than enough for me, since the beginning of the Free Update (around 5 days) absolutly nothing has changed for me in term of gameplay, and I'm really happy with this.

tldr: If you're reading tldrs it means you don't give a fuck about the Free Update.

I started to look at it as if I got to play the game like 3 years early and I get better stuff,
And that I got it for free with HL:2 and Portal.

The TF2 community was shit well before this update. In a few weeks this will all blow over just like when TF2 was released for Macs, but this time without earbuds.

I was never too much in the community, I just used to go to WDZ servers because they were always full of people who are serious and you can talk to in the chat..

I, myself, mostly always go on a specific French server or the pony servers (all of them, even in Killing Floor) + the ones I already mentioned (Mario Kart Saxton ect).

The problem I have with the game its simple: they change how it works.

2007: Pay the game and get all the content
2011: Free game, you pay for the content you want.

What I want to say? I dont like that it changed. I mean, I like games that I bought and get everything. Like any normal game, you know. But now, I bought the content and I'm on a game model totally changed.

Valve offers a game. I like it enough to buy the game. Now, the game its not what I ask for. I dont pay for a free to play, I give my money to get the game and what it have. I dont like what the game its now.

2008: you could get every weapon just getting the right achievement. And... nothing more.
2011: if you want a weapon, you need a lot of luck, trade stuff, craft a lot of shit or buy it. What if I dont have enough time to get it? it's unfair, and its worst because I paid for a game model that just dont exist anymore.

Im not mad, but I hope you can understand why I dont like it right now.

^I do think you have a point. Problem is, developers have smelled the money elsewhere, away from the one-package model. Why else do you think that Steam is littered with lots of useless DLC you can buy? Exactly.
