You could also ask why any of the characters die in salt. It makes sense that it kills Meat Boy and Naija, but why does it kill Jill? Because it's an obstacle that's coded to kill you regardless of logic. If it didn't kill certain characters the entire chapter would be broken.

I take my old answer back, because I know know the true reason.

But how does it work? Is there a scientist we can ask about this?


Ah, the heck with it, I prefer my story; Meat Boy loses his skin in some kind of heavy machinery accident while working on a farm and was left to deal with it himself, while Bandage Girl was a little clumsy and her overprotective mother went bandage-crazy after she got a small cut. Seeing the irony in each others situations, they instantly fell in love.

Fast forward a few years and they're married or something and decide to have a baby. Everything seems fine until 7 months later, the pregnancy goes wrong and the baby has to be aborted. While the baby hasn't completely formed, he is functional and alive, and this puts some emotional stress on Meat Boy and Bandage Girl. Meat Boy isn't sure about whether the fetus is worth the trouble and effort to take care of but Bandage Girl persuades him to try. They eventually opt on going forward with an experimental procedure which would see the fetus living in a robotic suit for the most of his life.

Later on, as Fetus Boy, as he is now called, grows older, he begins to realize how close he was to being left for dead by Meat Boy. This enrages him, and Meat Boy's constant mockery of a glitch in the suit's pelvic area, causing it to occasionally shift in a very suggestive manner, "Oh, that little Dr. Fetus had a PhD in fucking!" doesn't help in the least. Eventually, Fetus Boy snaps and decides to do something drastic; he kidnaps Bandage Girl, runs off with her, and decides to adopt the name Dr. Fetus, all in the name of enraging Meat Boy and making his life miserable.

Dr. Fetus has an unusually high knowledge of mechanics or whatever and can't stand the thought of outright murdering his own father so he instead decides to build a series of obstacles and traps in the hope of simply scaring Meat Boy off. Meat Boy then enlists the help of some of his platforming pals to go on a wild and wacky adventure to get Bandage Girl back. The end?

The only problem with my storyline is how easily Meat Boy and Bandage Girl shrug off Dr. Fetus' death at the end of the game. Assholes
