I just realised that this is too useful not to be stickied. Consider expanding this to cover all known F_ menus for increased usefulness.

Yeah, good call. This thread has most of the info necessary for advanced dev mode activities. Since I made my particle knowledge public on here, I expect to see some used in peoples levels soon!

Also, what's the deal with conveyor belts? Sometimes they just vanish in play mode...

It seems like they only appear in the salt factory tileset, perhaps the other tilesets don't support the conveyors, but they were accidentally left in.

One time I accidentally opened up a player properties menu, but after that I couldn't again.
Anyone know the key to open it?

F3 while in play (not edit) mode. It will most likely immediately crash the game though... at some point a patch must have broken that menu and the velocity settings on critters. I know I used to be able to use both of those...

How about some general info about shifting objects to the foreground and background, that confused me for a long time. How to make make keys and buttons to work. And perhaps include a link to this file http://www.mediafire.com/?6ykri5flx1r5ua9This fixed allot of issues for me. Fixed the select terrain type ingame, the f10 menu, and making new levels bigger. aka 100x100

Ok Kyle273, looks like we're gonna be dropping the "F8" part of the "F8 Guide to Devmode" soon. I have a couple more FAQ posts from my "Level Creator Club" boards I could drop off for you. IDK if you want to reorganize the OP or not to accommodate new info, but that's up to you.

This is extremely helpful, but how can I change the dimensions of the level? I've been working on one and I had to make it loop backwards because the default size is too small.

There is no current way to change the dimensions of a level except when you're first creating it. The F10 button would theoretically allow you to resize a level, but all it'll do for the time being is to crash the game.
Make sure your level dimensions are big enough before you begin creating it.

I'm asking how to do this, I want to have the dimensions set to 150x75 instead of the default 50x50 that I get when I run SMB with -devmode.
