Make sure your level dimensions are big enough before you begin creating it.
I'm asking how to do this, I want to have the dimensions set to 150x75 instead of the default 50x50 that I get when I run SMB with -devmode.

Click New in the bottom right, then enter your dimensions.

All that does is crash the game.

No problem. You may want to check out the video, parts one and two, and look at his DevTools guide for SMB. They may have info you want on devmode. :D

I'd watch the non-advanced devtools one in fullscreen, as the text can be hard to read otherwise.

How can I make a disappearing tile? I'm using the salt factory palette and I want to have the button-operated tiles and the alternating platforms. I'm looking through hazards, animated props, tiles, and objects and I can't find buttons or the special tile that is used with it.

The link in the OP is indeed broken, although thankfully it's been posted elsewhere in the thread. Here it is again.

As to where you extract the contents without Steam, it's in the main Super Meat Boy folder (where SuperMeatBoy.exe is).
